Hello Doctors,
30 year old male who always practice safe sex. I have tested in the past and been negative for all STD's. I do have Oral Herpes (HSV1) I do get an outbreak once every 3 years. I had it since I was 12 so I am not worry about that. On Friday night I met a girl online. I went to her place and we kissed a lot ( I told her about my HSV1 status). I receive a hand job and unprotected oral sex for a least 20 minutes. I also finger her for about 3-4 minutes. No intercourse happen that night. I am worry about Herpes Simplex 2 and HIV.
1) what are my chances of catching Herpes2 from the oral sex?
2) I did have a cut under my fingernail that happend early that morning, should I worry that I could have been infected with HIV or Herpes2 from that act?
Thanks,

Hi Miguel,
Good for you for practicing safer sex on a regular basis!
I am assuming that you have been tested for HSV 2 in the past, is that correct?
Nothing that you describe about your interaction with this woman puts you at risk for genital HSV 2. You need genital to genital contact for HSV 2 transmission. People rarely have HSV 2 orally and when they do, it is shed very infrequently (about 3 days per year) from the mouth.
If you had a cut, you should observe your finger for a while and see if anything shows up. Obviously, if something like a blister shows up you should have it evaluated. Otherwise, I would not worry at all. And I do not believe that you are at all at risk for HIV infection. The finger cut is not a risk for HIV acquisition. Good news!

Hello Terri,
Yes I have been tested for HSV2 in the past. I got tested before going to a relationship in the beginning of 2013 and my ex and I came out negative. This has been my only exposure since I broke up with my previous partner. So I should just put this encounter behind me?
1) No risk for HSV2? Correct?
2) No risk for HIV?
3) should I even test for herpes and hiv?
Thanks have a good day.

There is no risk for HIV at all and the risk of acquiring HSV from what you did, since you already have HSV 1, is as close to zero as you can get.
I don't think you need to test, no.
