[Question #3280] Worried

Dear Doctors,
I had  A risk event with my ex in oct 2017
We did use protection but in the middle of intimate relations he took it off ,oral sex was unprotected  .I was intoxicated ,and before I realized it was too late. After the event I had A uti & after taking lots of antibiotics I had a yeast infection. My patner has a rash from I believe the yeast inf . I  been tested at 9 weeks and 7 days post exposure  and was negative. Hsv 1 0.06  & HSV 2 0.08
I asked my ex if he’s been tested for all std’s sand herpes which he said yes but I don’t believe him at all . He’s was seeing other people without my knowledge.
Then at 14 weeks  =  Hsv 1 was 0.01 & Hsv 2  0.01 .  But I’ve been having weird nerves symptoms.  I’ve been having anxiety and been dealing with prickling, pins ,needles ,skin burning and groin burning and inner thigh burning ,shock symptoms itch pulse in my toes and feet . it’s been goin on for almost three months but it seems to calm down now in the fourth month . I been having back pains, pains in the groin area but no outbreaks .. I can’t get the thought out of my head that I could have possibly been infected . I did not seen any signs of anything on my ex ,but like it’s said one can be infected and not know . Now I’m persuing  A western blot test,so I’m waiting until April which will be a full blown six months from exposure. I haven’t seen any symptoms or signs as of yet on my partner .
Please Dr Hook Or Dr Handsfield what’s your input on the situation ?? I’m so confuse with these symptoms.... could it be post herptic neuralgia for so long , I’ve seen posts of people with these symptoms so I’m really worried !

I'm sorry about the delay in answering your question - usually I get a notification that I have a question waiting but not this time for some reason.  Will check on that system.  And I answer the herpes questions on this forum, sorry.

your symptoms are quite generalized and not really representative of herpes.  Also, herpes does not present continuously, it is intermittent.  Your testing is solidly negative as well.  You don't need to wait six months for a western blot if you decide to do that - the UW recommends waiting 12 weeks now.  While there is a theoretical risk of herpes here, nothing that you have described worries me that you might actually be infected.

If you do the blot, remember that the IgG test misses 30% of HSV 1 infections compared to the western blot so if you are positive for HSV 1 by the blot, it doens't mean you have acquired genital infection - it could very well be oral and asymptomatic - 70% of oral infection is asymptomatic.  You can cross that bridge when you get to it if your western blot is positive but I just wanted to give you a heads up on possible result interpretation should you decide to do this test.  For this reason, some people will opt not to do the blot because they won't know what to make of a positive HSV 1 result.  Just think about it a bit before doing the test.

Hi Terri ,
Thank you for responding, I’ve been having weird symptoms, and I haven’t had any outbreaks at all . Mostly  Nerve Sensations  for  4 months now but it’s dying down a bit now: :starting in the groin area : it’s like quick shock sensations , (in the legs ,toes groin area ,) pins and needle sometimes in the groin , back .  Headaches also on and off skin burning in my arms and groin it happens spontaneously (I’m thinking maybe it’s due to anxiety ,but I have no clue )  . Affected areas are :The groin, inner thigh, sometimes the bum and back . My lips seems to be red and feels chapped maybe it’s the weather . But no outbreaks either ... just really a bit nervous and confused .. Thank you very much for replying to my question . I’ll keep u posted Mrs Warren !!!  Have A Wonderful Day & Thank You For Your Services. It means a lot to everyone I’m pretty sure !! Take Care ! Ms Spark23

I now you are worried, I'm sorry about that.  But these general nerve sensations by themselves are just not consistent with herpes.  Don't let them get you too carried away - And your testing at 14 weeks shows no apparent infection so that's terrific!

Hi Mrs Warren,
How Are you ,hope all is well !
Just have a follow up question Concerning western blot testing lab request requisition form, hope you can help because Im getting conflicted information. So the physician ordered the test ,but the paper work is stating for the physician name and NPI Number Which she did . Do you know if that’s all she needs to do to order the test . It never stated to put a ICD/Diagnosis code .on the physician letter . The lab says it doesn’t need a ICD/Diagnosis code . Just the Physician Number and NPI Code ...I’ve tested negative so I there’s no Diagnosis code for me .I know your A professional when it comes to testing thats why I’m asking u ,and I don’t want to waste A trip ,time and money . I’m paying out of pocket ,so I hope u can reply to this  and steer me in the right direction. Thank u much .. Have A Wonder weekend !  Sincerely MsSparks !!!
