[Question #3307] Scared - Herpes?

I had sexual intercourse with a girl a few months ago that brought intense anxiety and guilt due to the fact that I am currently in a relationship. Shortly after, I started feeling a very slight tingle sensation on the shaft of my penis. Nothing happened for a 3-4 weeks so I went and got tested for herpes and both came back negative. I also went to my doctor and he didnt think there was an issue. I then again made the same mistake last week with the same female. The NEXT MORNING I felt the exact same tingle in the exact same spot. 7 days later (today) no signs of lesions or bumps but sometimes feel the tingle (or my mind is making me think that). The more I research symptoms the more I start to make myself think I have them- Muscle soreness, feel like I am coming down with a cold, stiff back, etc. Again this situation brings INTENSE anxiety and stress so I hope I am just looking too far into it and freaking myself out. Any help would be appreciated. I am so stressed out.

Would like to add that the first time I got the tingle, one small pimple/ingrown hair showed up. I showed my doctor and he quickly ruled it out as being herpes. Its just odd to me that the tingle started in the exact area that the pimple appeared. Hoping I am just overthinking this. My right shoulder is extremely sore currently and it feels as if I am starting to get sick. Does any of this or my first post make you feel as if I am at risk for herpes?

So I do hear that you are scared about this encounter, and I'm sorry you are feeling anxious right now.  The good news is that nothing you have written here worries me that you might have herpes.  Nothing like shoulder pain would be related to a herpes infection either.  I'm glad you went to see your own provider because there is just nothing better than seeing someone in person for an evaluation.  And it's great that you have a negative HSV antibody test - do you recall which one?  It should be an IgG test.

Without any sores, I am not concerned about slight tingling or the other symptoms that you describe.  A small pimple is not characteristic of herpes.  And by now, you are well far away from the time when you would get a first outbreak from this encounter.

You don't mention - condoms or no condoms?

Unprotected.

I went and got another blood test yesterday because this weird tingle/irration will not go away. I can’t tell if it’s mental or not. There is no sign of anything down there. I am so confused.

Follow up question: when you feel the prodrome, does that mean blisters are sure to follow? That’s the only thing keeping me sane is that nothing has appeared and I’ve had this constant (very slight) tingle.

Yup, I see it.  I can't tell you how many people have that tingling sensation but never ever develop a herpes infection.   I don't think you are imagining it, but perhaps you are over observing your symptoms.  With no lesions, I seriously doubt that you have herpes.  With everyone talking about the tingling associated with herpes (which actually isn't that common) I wonder if people are starting to think tingling is the main symptom of herpes!  It is NOT!  Lesions are the symptoms of herpes - let's not get mixed up here.
