[Question #3327] Sti spread through oral contact with testicals

Doctor,
Is there a possibility of contracting an STI from oral contact with testicals? There were no openings or sores at time of contact. No symptoms have arisen, I just noticed that safe sex for fellacio does not say anything about the testicular region and so Im wondering if there is any thing to be worried about there or anyway to protect myself better.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.
No STDs are likely from oral contact with the scrotum. Certainly there is no risk for those STDs transmitted by body fluids (gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, viral hepatitis); and for those transmitted by skin contact (HPV, herpes, syphilis) the skin in this location is an unlikely site of active infection. In theory, there could be slight risk -- but a lot lower than for penile-oral contact, which -- as you seem to know-- is itself quite low risk.
I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
