[Question #3384] Genital HSV1

I have been tested negative for HSV1 and 2 confirmed through IGG and WB. I received oral sex last night from my boyfriend who denies a history of cold sores. I of course freaked out afterwards and went to the doctors office the next day. I know a blood test is not going to be accurate now, but they swabbed my cervix. Is it possible that I could have been shedding already if I were infected and the swab could pick it up? Also, I know that nothing is 100% but I had been having unprotected oral sex before I got the negative results from the WB. Does it seem like a low chance that I would be infected with HSV1 since I have tested negative on WB after many months of unprotected oral sex and him denying a history of cold sores?

Also, I wanted to add that the oral sex was not very ling or vigorous, just about 2 minutes or so him stimulating my clitoris with his tongue. I didn’t know if that would affect you opinion any.

I think the risk of acquiring herpes in this situation is incredibly low!  do you even know his HSV 1 status?

I don’t his HSV1 status, the only thing information I have on his status is him verbally telling me that he has never gotten a cold sore. Some of his family members get them, but his mom said she’s never noticed him to have cold sores, but idk if that’s really a good indicator if he has it or not.

Truthfully, idk much about HSV1. I just recently learned that it could be spread without symptoms and that’s what prompted me to get the WB.

I kind of wish I hadn’t freaked out and went to my doctor the next day, to just see if symptoms could develop. Would the NP swabbing my cervix that soon really offer that much benefit.

What do you recommend as far as waiting it out. Should I just be checking for symptoms and what time frame should I be following for symptoms? Is it likely that I will develop symptoms if I’m infected?

Do you think it would be beneficial to get my BF tested by Igg, I know it’s not as accurate as the WB, but is it at least a good place to start?

Yes, It would be good for him to get some testing for HSV 1 - IgG or WB. Your sex life is going to suck if you keep worrying about this, don't you think?  If he is negative great and if he is positive, he can go on daily medication to try to reduce the risk of transmission or if this is that important to you you could not receive oral sex or kiss him.  Or you could evaluate carefully how bad it would really be to get HSV 1 infection which is very common in the population in exchange for having better sex or possibly cold sores which are both manageable with medicine
If you have had no symptoms within 2-10 days, I would think you are pretty much in the clear  We know you are a true double negative by the blot so I would expect some symptoms if you are newly infected.

I think I have one more question.

How long would it take for shedding to occur after you are newly infected? I’m just trying to see if having my cervix swabbed had any real benefit. If I am infected could I have already been shedding virus the next day? She used a real time PCR swab as well if that gives you anymore to go on.

Also, I want to be sure that I recognize symptoms. What will they typically look like. Will they be close to the clitoris since this was the area of direct contact? Or there a chance that symptoms can look atypical or does that mainly just occur with a recurrence?

Thank you for the reassurance. I’m trying to work on this fear. I have a family members and friends that have oral HSV1 and while it is a nuisance to them, it hardly ever bothers them!

If you were newly infected, you might be shedding from the cervix, yes.
Symptoms would like sores or ulcerations of the skin and they could be any where around the labia.
We are talking on both forums so you might want to stick to only one. I posted for you today on the other forum as well.
