[Question #3405] huge mistake

Last night I had protected sex with a stripper that only lasted not even 5 minutes. I’m freaking about about catching something. The tip of my penis has a weird sensation. But it does not hurt to urinate. What is the chance that I have contracted something?

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

First and perhaps most important, condoms work. If "protected" means a condom was in place before any penile-genital contact and through completion of penetration, and did not obviously break, there is no risk for many STDs (gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis) and low risk for all others (herpes, HPV, syphilis). Also, at any point in time, even the highest risk female sex partners do not have active infections; and then they do, any single exposure usually doesn't result in transmission. As for the "weird sensation" of your penis, no STD can start to cause symptoms the next day; 2-3 days is the minimum for any and all STDs; and then the expected symptoms would be discharge, painful urination, or penile sores.

So assuming no such symptoms develop over the next 10 days or so, you can be confident you weren't infected. And almost certainly that won't happen. I don't recommend any testing at all. However, if you think negative tests would give you more reassurance than my advice based on probability and statisitcis, you are free to be tested for common STDs. In that case, have a urine gonorrhea/chlamydia test in a few days (any time more than 4-5 days after exposure will be conclusive) and blood tests for syphilis and HIV after 6 weeks. This doesn't mean I believe you really need testing:  if I were in your shoes personally, I wouldn't get tested and would continue sex with my wife without worry of giving her anything.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

So I should be ok then And not worry? What is the likelihood of something happening? I’m sorry I’m just nervous/scared

I already said "the likelihood of something happening" (i.e. that you caught any STD) is very low; low enough that if it were me or a family member, I would not recommend testing. If you want a number on it, I would guess under 1 chance in a thousand you caught any of the STDs I mentioned, and for most of them less than 1 in a milion.

She was fully undressed and I was basically fully and just sitting down with my pants undone with my penis exposed. Does that make a difference compared to being fully naked? I’m sorry for asking all the questions just keep having random thoughts pop into my head. Plus I’m the next 10 days what symptoms would arise I were infected?

Makes no difference. I already listed the main symptoms caused by STDs; reread my original reply above.

That completes the two follow-up comments and replies included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful. Do your best to ignore any more "random thoughts" that come into your head. Trust me on this:  there is no additional information about this exposure that would possibly change my opinion or advice, so please don't ask.

Really, this was a non-event in regard to STD risk. Judt forget about it and move on. Good luck!
