[Question #3523] A kiss

If you have oral HPV, can you transmit it through a kiss on the cheek or lips? What if there is saliva on your lips, can it be transmitted that way, via saliva? I am not talking about deep open mouth kissing, just a simple kiss.

Welcome to the forum.

I have often replied that sometimes the question itself contains enough information to answer a question, but this one might set the record! Before I even opened this and saw only the title "A kiss", the response in my head was "Don't worry. Kissing is no risk for any STD. Don't worry about it." And after reading the question itself, that reply is the same. Even open mouth, tongue/french kissing is not known to transmit HPV. It probably can happen, but it's not frequent. In any case, a social kiss -- not prolonged, without physically vigorous pressure, and with littel saliva contact -- for sure is no risk for HPV or any other STD.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
