[Question #3527] 10 seconds cunnilingus risks

Hello doctors. I made huge mistake and I regret it now very much.
I was at strip club and performed very very brief cunnilingus on a girl. I was drunk and don't remember exactly but cunnilingus lasted 10 seconds tops. I don't know what happened to me I just read that cunnilingus isn't risk for HIV on i-base.info which I considered to be good source for HIV transmission information but I read here that cunnilingus is risky too.

Please tell me what are my risks of having of HIV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis or any other STI.
1 - Can I drink some antibiotics for gonorrhea, chlamydia or syphilis. If yes which one?
2- And can I continue to have sex with my wife?
3 - Should I test of HIV?

Welcome to our Forum.  I will try to provide some information.  Cunnilingus is a very low risk activity for acquisition of STIs.   As you point out, it is a no risk event for HIV and close to that for other STIs.  most exotic dancers/commercial sex workers do not have STIs and even if they do, cunnilingus is a biologically inefficient process that rarely leads to acquisition of infection.  Of possible STIs, gonorrhea is probably the most likely and I would put your risk for having gotten that at less than 1/10th of 1% (less than 1 in 1000). The risk of other STIs is much lower than even that.  Chlamydia rarely infects the throat and acquisition of syphilis, which is ever rarer than gonorrhea or chlamydia, requires direct contact with lesions which you probably would have noticed.   Finally, the brevity of youour encounter makes you risk even lower.  Personally, I would not be worried about this exposure.   In answer to your questions:

1.
1 - Can I drink some antibiotics for gonorrhea, chlamydia or syphilis. If yes which one?
There is no need for antibiotic therapy for this exposure.  If you feel strongly about being tested, you could have a health care provider do throat swabs for gonorrhea and chlamydia.  I am confident that hey would be negative.

2- And can I continue to have sex with my wife?
Yes

3 - Should I test of HIV?
No

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH

OMG Dr. Hook himself answered my questions.

I see the trend that many websites change information about cunnilingus from low risk to no risk does it mean doctors are coming to conclusion that it is no risk?

I forgot to mention that I had sore throat yesterday. Does the sore throat fact change you assessment or cunnilingus is not risk at all?
Unfortunately the oral swab test isn't available where I live - only blood and urine tests. That's why I asked about antibiotics (just to make sure).

"Chlamydia rarely infects the throat and acquisition of syphilis, which is ever rarer than gonorrhea or chlamydia, requires direct contact with lesions which you probably would have noticed".
Girl seemed very clean but I was really drunk so I might have missed it. So I would thank you for some antibiotic assessment.

Thanks doc you are doing great job!

As far as I know there are 2 follow up post after initial post.
I remember I did 3-4 licks on the vagina.
1 - I drank 2g of azithromycin this morning and 400mg of Cefixime (as cdc guidelines for treating stis) would it be enough for preventing gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis?
2 - Please also reply about sore throat thing. Does it make HIV testing required?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  In science we never say "never" because strange things happen and new things are discovered all the time.  OTOH, on over 35 years of STD-focused practice,  I have never seen a patient who got an STI from cunnilingus.  It is something I just would not would not worry about.

Your sore throat does not concern me for STI.  When STIs occur in the throat they are typically asymptomatic.

If you had acquired an STI from the exposure you mention, the antibiotics you took would have likely taken care of things and prevented infection.

There is certainly no reason for HIV testing related to the events you described.  EWH

Sorry for asking one more time. I had sore throat when this incident happened does it change anything?

I can guess your answer dr. Hook.
Even if one has sores it may theoretically increase the risk of infection  (and that's pretty common) there are still no known case of getting HIV through cunnilingus.
Still no risk

Thanks

Repeating your question will not change my answer.  I would not be worried about the sore throat.

Correct, there has NEVER been a case of HIV proven to be acquired through cunnilingus.

This will complete this thread which will be closed shortly. No further answers from here in the interval.  Take care and please don't worry- you do not have a reason to, other than guilt.  EWH
