[Question #3593] UTI coincidence.

Hello Dr.
This is a follow up but different question that I had last week. Since I already asked my 2 follow up questions I purchased another to follow the forum rules.
Anyway to quickly summarize.
Encounter 6 weeks ago protected.
Noticed 2 small bumps. At day 2 following encounter. 1 had a scab went away a few days later. The other bump still there till this day. No pain no anything. Very small. This caused me anxiety. Dr. Handsfield said very unlikely related to herpes.
4-5 after exposure tested for chlamedya/ Gono HIV syphilis . All came back negative. For this testing I was especially focused on the chlamedya and gono.
3 weeks after encounter I tested 4th gen HIV . - negative
Right after that I stared taking H pilori medicine for pre existing condition. This was on a Wednesday.
That following Monday - week 4 after encounter.
Did std standard panel test again.
Negative for eveything again.
Im sure I didn’t catch anything from this encounter.
But last week my gf told me she felt she had UTI symptoms. So we went to the doc and he did the urinalysis and he diagnosed her with a UTI. Positive nitrates and leukocytes . He prescribed Bactrim and she’s already feeling better.
1- if my h pilori meds affected my chlamedya and gono test at week 4 , 5 days of taking the medication.
wouldn’t my initial test at 5 days after encounter rule these infections out in the first place?
2- even if the antibiotics I was in affected the result and there was a unlikely chance I actually had chlamedya or Gono wouldn’t the DNA test capture some of this anyway given the sensitivity?
3 My question is can this be a huge coincidence ? My guilt just won’t let me think it might be. Or did I actually get something?
I’ve alrady spent a lot on eating and at this point I feel if I eat again it will very likely still be negative.
What do you think?

Welcome back to the Forum. I am not sure follow your questions. I will try to answer. As I understand it, your testing for traditional STIs (gonorrhea and chlamydia) was negative before the time you started treatment for H. pylori- correct? If so, that has no impact on your test results. On the other hand, H. pylori treatment, depending on which medication you are taking, would be potentially curable for many STIs. Can you tell me which medicines you are taking for H. pylori and for how long.
My suspicion is that your girlfriend's UTI is a coincidence. Can you tell me what antibiotics she is taking?
In answer to your other questions:
1- if my h pilori meds affected my chlamedya and gono test at week 4 , 5 days of taking the medication.
wouldn’t my initial test at 5 days after encounter rule these infections out in the first place?
See above, your initial tests DID rule out gonorrhea and chlamydia. I would not re-test for these.
2- even if the antibiotics I was in affected the result and there was a unlikely chance I actually had chlamedya or Gono wouldn’t the DNA test capture some of this anyway given the sensitivity?
Yes
3 My question is can this be a huge coincidence ? My guilt just won’t let me think it might be. Or did I actually get something?
Yes, I suspect this is a coincidence and nothing more. do not let your guilt upset you. EWH

Hi dr.
To clarify . I took an Initial Ari test at 4-5 days post encounter all negative.
At week 3 Wednesday I started to take the h pilori medicine included amoxicillin, chlarytromicin and pantropazole.
On the following Monday 5 days after taking medicine went to get the follow up test at 4 weeks to rule out any stds. Eveything came back negative
1- If the medicine affected my results for chlamedya /Gono at week 4. my initial 5 day test rules this out anyway from what you said. Correct?
2- if this is a coincidence which I suspect it is and you also agree, should I stop testing as the 4 weeks test pretty much rules everything out . I actually started feeling better about my anxiety in the past few days .

Correct. Your original tests rule of STIs. Further, the meds you are taking for H. pylori (the clarithromycin and amoxicillin) are active against many STIs as well. I would not be worried at all about STis in your situation.
2- if this is a coincidence which I suspect it is and you also agree, should I stop testing as the 4 weeks test pretty much rules everything out . I actually started feeling better about my anxiety in the past few days .
Yes, I suspect it is a coincidence and I recommend no further STI testing. Try to put your misstep behind you and move forward without concern.
Take care. EWH

Hi Dr. Hook
So yes it ended up being coincidence . She’s much better now. I still did my 6 week test to make sure everything was ok and it all came back good as expected.
My final question is that all this anxiety caused me frequent urination . Although I feel anxiety is gone the symptoms still remain. Will this subside on its own. Do you ha any recomendattions on maybe herbal remedies or something?
Thanks

Frequent urination often accompanies sexually focused anxiety. I would presume that your symptoms will resolve and would do my best not to worry. Sorry, I do not know much about herbal medications and while I do not oppose them as long as it is clear they will do no harm, I am not in a position to recommend them.
I'm pleased that your partner is feeling better and that you are now able to move on. As you know, this being my 3rd response, this thread will close later today. Take care. EWH
