[Question #362] Question about Oral Exposure

Hello doctors. I had an unprotected oral sex exposure with a 38 year old female  outside of my marriage.  Scared of my exposure, I went to get an NAAT urine sample for gono/chaly on the fifth day.  Fearing NGU, on day 9 I took a 1g zpack ( i know i was not suppose to do that). On day 9 i found out the lab lost the test. So I retested on day 10 my urine sample , but read the antibiotics could interfere.    So I then I rested again on day 15.

Day 16 Post Exposure After consulting with an online doctor, I went to an urgent care location explaining my concerns. The doctor said I was likely okay since I Had NO Symptoms, but he provided me a rocphin injection 250mg and 1 zpack.

Day 17: My second naat urine gono test is negative.

Day 20: I have not symptoms since the exposure. But my questions are:

1.      Can I trust the test results?

2.      Do I need to be retested?

3.      Is the treatment sufficient?

4.      Can I have sex with my wife again seven days after treatment without worry?

Sorry for my dumb actions. I really regret what I have done. Fear is killing me more than anything else.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'm pleased to comment,   This risk of getting any STI from oral sex is very low- most people do not have STIs and even when they do, transmission through receipt of oral sex rarely leads to infection   In addition, you have now been treated completely for both gonorrhea and NGU with the rocephin/azithromycin you received as well as possibly by the Z-paks.  Your multiple negative test results serve to confirm that you were not infected and do not need to be repeated.  Thus:

1. Believe the test results.

2.  There is no need for retesting

3. The antibiotics you took are more than sufficient

4.  There is no reason related to the events you describe to abstain from sex with your wife.

I hope my comments are helpful to yo.  EWH

So since you are saying I can trust my test results, no need to wait 7 days after the shot to return to sexual relations with my wife?

Final question for clarification purpose. Why do people say antibiotics can interfere with the test results? Does it mean you can test positive but the infection is already dead or it can cause a false negative? Thanks doctor and good luck. You have certainly helped.

Both scenarios are possible in specific situations.  however, as I said before, in this instance, you should have complete trust in your test results and be able to have unprotected sex with your wife without concern that you are infected from the events you have described.  EWH
