[Question #3684] Cold sore or pimple?

Hello Terri,

I did get some reassurance from you and Dr. Huntsfielf but few new symptoms popped up which seem to be concerning. I would like to get your opinion to reassure myself.

To be brief, I had protected encounter oral and vaginal 3 months ago. After 4 days Itching in anal perineum, groin, scrotum and pelvic areas lasted for on and off for two and half months. As far as the doctors have seen there were no blisters showed up except one bump on pelvic area which got which did not break or blister. My 4,7 and 10.5 week tests Are negative for both hsv 1 &2.

This morning around 12 weeks after exposure I noticed a bump on my face right above mustache and near to cheek. Bump size of a green lentil. It does not pain but it is small and slightly red. I am scared of it as it might be herpes.

1. Did I innoculate myself from itching/scratching my groin and infect myself?
2. Could it be a cold sore or could it be a heat boil or pimple? The face itches slightly now and then...
3. Have you seen auto inoculation from scratching groin/genitals where there is no bumps, only itching (asymptotic shedding?)
4. Since I did not give oral or kiss the other person should I worry about hsv2 passing from genitals to face?
5. I am being too paranoid. Can you advise if I have to get the bump swabbed?
6.l don’t remember touching the bump on  groin which I had 3 weeks ago and touching my face. If I did that given if it is  hsv1 can it get transferred to face?
7.  Please advise as to how to reassur every single symptom is not  reElated to herpes.
8. Do you advise a western blot?
9. My scrotum feels tender and irritated but not bumps. Again he dermatologist say is not herpes but I have touched my genitals many times and touched my face unknowingly. Can that be any source of spreading infection if u had it?
10. How accurate are my test results after 10.5~11 weeks after the encounter.? Should I trust them or retest at 16 weeks? Any thoughts?

This popped up two days ago and seems and stays on above my lip. It did grow in size slightly but did not break open or ooze or did not pain. If I observe carefully I could see a white head inside it but it is inside the bump. This showed up on face right above mustache area and between cheek. My lip itched and also i noticed twitching and slight itching on my face for the last two days.

My left index finger is itching very badly, should I get the pimple swabbed? If so please advise. Thanks..

I am worried of inoculation from downstairs to my face. I got something on pelvic area few weeks back, does this look like folliculitis? I did not get any swab or anything but my 10.5 weeks results are negative for IgG. Do you see concern with herpes with the protected sex I had? This is on pelvis area.

Do i need to be concerned at all? How do I reassure myself?

1. Did I innoculate myself from itching/scratching my groin and infect myself?

No, I don't believe that you did
2. Could it be a cold sore or could it be a heat boil or pimple? The face itches slightly now and then...

Looks like a pimple to me

3. Have you seen auto inoculation from scratching groin/genitals where there is no bumps, only itching (asymptotic shedding?)

Never

4. Since I did not give oral or kiss the other person should I worry about hsv2 passing from genitals to face?

No
5. I am being too paranoid. Can you advise if I have to get the bump swabbed?

I don't believe that the bump needs to be swab tested

6.l don’t remember touching the bump on  groin which I had 3 weeks ago and touching my face. If I did that given if it is  hsv1 can it get transferred to face?

No, I don't believe that that happened

7.  Please advise as to how to reassur every single symptom is not  reElated to herpes.

Well, yes, I advise a western blot for you since you are having difficulty accepting the results of the IgG and also our admonitions that we don't believe you have herpes
8. Do you advise a western blot?

Yes

9. My scrotum feels tender and irritated but not bumps. Again he dermatologist say is not herpes but I have touched my genitals many times and touched my face unknowingly. Can that be any source of spreading infection if u had it?

Nope
10. How accurate are my test results after 10.5~11 weeks after the encounter.? Should I trust them or retest at 16 weeks? Any thoughts?

I think these are as good as it is going to get but you know it has some limitations.  I don't believe that you have any risk for herpes but you continue to be anxious about this.
But only do the western blot if you can believe the results and let it go - otherwise, it isn't worth the time and money

Terri
