[Question #3727] Worried about Herpes

17 days ago I had a sexual encounter. I received oral sex from a woman. There was another man present who she also gave oral sex to. Essentially back and forth. For around 20-30 mins on and off.

I did not come into direct contact with an semen from the other man that I know of and this was the only sexual contact. Only receiving unprotected oral.

As soon as the day after I felt what I can only describe as irrataion around my penis glans. Also at this same time I began having pressure after urination. No pain during urination just a pressure in my urethra after urination. Some days this happens less than others. But still happens now.

Last Thursday I got a cold and still have some congestion today. Also today I had some nausea for an hour or so.  A few people at work also had a cold at the same time.

I have been hyper aware of my penis and of any sensations and have been constantly looking at it. I don't see anything that absolutely looks like anything but I keep getting sensations like an irritation feeling on parts of my penis head, and glans. I do have clogged pores on my shaft and always have. So things like that are not in common. Around 5 days ago I found a few new one on my circumsized foreskin. I squeezed one and a tiny clear liquid came out. No pussy, pain or scaring. And they are still there. I assume this is not herpes but concerned as well.

Today I started feeling the irritaion again on my penis head and glans. I I tried to find pictures of herpes online to compare and I just can't see the forest through the trees at this point.

I am very worried about STDs in general and especially things like herpes. I know that I can get obsessed about things like this and I just don't know what's real or if I'm making myself phsyco-sematic.

I just want to know what the chances are of possible herpes or if I am over-reacting and freaking myself out.

Thank you for your time.

For herpes, I suggest that you be looking for lesions (and you are not reporting any that sound like herpes lesions to me).  None of the symptoms that you describe so far concern me that you have herpes.  Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip? If yes, then you have HSV 1 already and would be very unlikely to acquire it genitally.  It is unlikely but not impossible to acquire other STI's from receiving oral sex.  I am going to assume that you have been tested for other infections if this has been bothering you?

Hello, Terri. I have never had a cold sore. I was tested last year in Feb. And was clean. It was a full panel test. I have yet to be tested again as it has only been 18 days now. I assume I need more time.

I have not seen anything that looks like a lesion. Any "spots" per say are painless and not red. I'm fairly certain I am just hyper fixated and when you're worried anything can look like anything.

It's just the occasional "irritaion" on my glans or penis head at the urethra. Sometimes I feel it when it rubs in my underwear or how it sits against my leg. Though again, as I am currently worried. I don't know if these are normal sensations that in a non-fixated state I wouldn't even notice or process.

As it has been now 18 days since; would I have seen something by now? So if I don't have obvious lessons, can I assume I am safe? The information in the internet (I know not the best place for it) is so wishy washy. Some say in timeline others say another. Some say you'd know for sure while others say that it can be subtle and hardly noticable.

- So if I had anything would it be absolutely obvious and noticable? Not just some very tiny red dot or something?

- And if so at this point would I have noticed something if it was there?

- Can the "irratation" and pressure in my urethra both come and go - be unrelated or something else. Possibly non-STD related?

I am making an appointment with a urologist to have someone look at me and to get tested as well. But I really need to know how worried I should be. I severely overthink and analyize.

Please let me know your thoughts. And thanks again.

If you were going to get symptoms, it normally happens in 2-10 days from the encounter.  As much as you are observing, I do think you would have noticed something for sure.
I don't feel that the irritation and pressure in the urethra is herpes related with no other symptoms.
I personally don't feel you should feel this worried, given everything you had told me so far, no

Hello, Terri.

Thanks again for the response. Just a few more questions. Just to make sure I've asked everything that's concerning me.

- If I had anything I should have seen it with in 2-10 days. Seeing as it's now 19 days since, I should be fine?

- If something had some up it would have been very noticeable and obvious? Not small and subtle, is that correct?

- My cold and other flu-ish symptoms are most likely totally un-related and or are not even sysmtoms common to herpes?

- Do people always exibit an outbreak with an initial herpes invection? If so, is it always within the 2-10 period for the initial outbreak?

- The small pumps that I did find that had some clear fluid in them - they are very small. Only two of them. I'd say abount 1mm or less in size approximately. No pain, no growth, no scaring, little to no redness; mainly skin colored. And I've seen them in the same spot now for 10 days or so unchanged. Can I assume this is not herpes?

Again, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. It is much appreciated.

Probably, yes.  Guarantee?  No
Normally new infections are noticeable but not for everyone
Cold symptoms are unrelated to herpes, yes
No, people do not always exhibit an outbreak with a new infection.  If indeed 80% of people infected with HSV 2, identified by blood antibody test, deny that they have genital herpes, not everyone can have significant symptoms, right?
The spots you describe do not sound herpetic to me.
