[Question #3759] Hsv transmission

Hello again. I have hsv2  genitally.
I also have a 4 uear old girl.
What risks should i be aware of in relation to transmission to her?

Can it spread on chairs, shower, toilet or fawcetts?
If she uses them immediately following me? Or even a few hours?
Do i need to always wear panty liners?
Can she sit on my lap?
What risk am i to her as far as sharing a house and bathtoom and laundry machine.

Do i need to disinfect everything each time i use it? Is it advised to?

I'm pleased that you are seeing out a professional opinion about this.
HSV 2 is a sexually transmitted infection - it is not spread to family members in any other way.

It is not spread on chairs, in the shower or faucets
You don't need to ever wear panty liners unless you need them for some other purpose - I'm confused by that one!
She can of course sit on your lap!
No risk sharing a house or bathroom or laundry and you don't need to disinfect anything
We do recommend that you have your own towel though we know of no one getting herpes from sharing a towel

Thank you.
I was wearing panty liners and pads bc i was afraid of sitting on the furniture and spreading it.
I also disinfect everything and laundry our clothes in bleach seperately from eachothers.

There is straon on my relationship with my daughter bc of this i think.
Are there resources or groups incan work with to ease my anxiety about this?

there is no need to wear panty liners or pads -make yourself go without, even if it makes you anxious.  And you can stop disinfecting things and bleaching and doing laundry separately
You could look at the website herpes opportunity - many people find it helpful
Individual cognitive behavior therapy is what you need from someone who specializes in anxiety disorders.

Thank you very much.
The fact that u identified my anxiety and need of cbt makes me trust your responses that much more.
I have ocd that is based on an irrational fear of germs (phobia) not just receiving germs but spreading them as well.
It has been quite mild and manageable until this diagnosis. (For obvious reasons lol)

With that being said, is there any conditions we know of that can make a swab test a false positive for hsv2?

False positives on swab tests can happen if the swab test is a culture rather than PCR.  With a culture test, virus can be lost if the sample is not appropriately transmitted to the lab, if temperatures are not maintained appropriately or if there is too long time between gathering the culture and getting it to the laboratory. It is also possible with people who have well-established infections that virus is cleared very quickly from the lesion because immune system is functioning efficiently.
