[Question #3819] Concerned

Background:

I currently have genital hpv. Several warts on my penis. A few nights ago I masturbated and I don't remember if I washed my hands.

I am concerned I may have transmitted hpv to my sister by accident. About 10 minutes after I masturbated I went back in the living room and watched TV with her. We were cutting up, and laughing, and I put my hand over her mouth as she was calling me names in jest. She has been recovering from strep throat and her throat has been raw. I read online that sores on the throat could make HPV spread easily.

I probably had HPV on my hands as I recently masturbated.

Could I have spread HPV orally to her by accident from my hand to her mouth given that her throat was raw anyway from being sick?

I know my hand touched her lips and teeth and with her bout with strep I am concerned.

I read oral warts are rare but I had one removed 3 years ago so my anxiety is heightened over this. I am,being treated for OCD but I don't know,if this is my OCD or a legit concern. Thank you for your patience.

I forgot to add I read that you can self-anoculate oral hpv from touching genitals. That is why I am so scared about it being on my hand and transferring it to her in the way I described....

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll try to help.  While our understanding or HPV transmission and transmission efficiency continues to evolve, both auto-inoculation and transmission of HPV through transfer of the virus on a person's hands are extraordinarily rare, if it even happens at all (our answers are science-based and in science, because new knowledge continues to appear, we can "never say never").  Further transfer of genital HPV types to non-genital skin and to the mouth and oral cavity are relatively events.  There are no data to suggest that the fact that someone may have a strep throat or be recovering from an infection of this sort changes this.

I think that wherever you heard of self-inoculation of oral HPV is inaccurate or is reporting something that occurs very, very rarely.

Thus my assessment and advice is that this is not something for you to be worried about and to not let your OCD carry you away.  EWH

Thank you so much doctor. May I ask one more question?  Do I need to change sheets after sex? I am so afraid if one of the kids hopped into bed after my fiance and I had sex they could get it from linens. Sometimes my youngest crawls into bed at night. Could I have passed it through bed sheets, even if 30 minutes after my fiance and,I had sex? Thank you.

No, no need to change sheets after sex.  If HPV were transmitted on bedsheets, everyone would be covered with HPV.  No a concern

Im sorry, I forgot to ask, I didn't understand this sentence: "Further transfer of genital HPV types to non-genital skin and to the mouth and oral cavity are relatively events." Does relatively mean very rare?... I'm sorry, if you don't mind clarifying the bed sheets question too that would be helpful. I won't write any more. Thank you

Yes the word "rare" was omitted., thus, the sentence should read - "Further transfer of genital HPV types to non-genital skin and to the mouth and oral cavity are relatively rare events."

Not sure what you want to hear about HPV on bedsheet.  Transfer of HPV through contact with contaminated bedsheets is not a realistic concern.  Your OCD is showing!

Im sorry, I just am scared the the hpv on my hands could have transferred to her mouth. Relatively rare means hardly ever happens?... Im very sorry.

Rare means nearly never.  Far less tha 1 in 10.

Thread will now be closed.,  further OCD driven questions will be deleted without a response.   EWH
