Hello Dr. First of all I want to thank you for this great form I have a question about four generation test why do we have to retake a test at 12 weeks if it’s pretty accurate At 6 weeks I tested it at Four weeks and a half it has Negative What is the chance that my results at six week will be positive if it was negative at 4 1/2 and what is the chance that it will be positive at 12 weeks if I was negative or six weeks why does my doctor want me to retest does it matter if I was a low risk or high-risk Have you ever seen anybody that their test cost positive from 6 to 12 weeksIt’s just I get really nervous thinking that I have to wait 12 weeks to get a conclusive results thank u

Welcome to the Forum. I'll be glad to comment. Many health care providers are confused about when HIV test results are conclusive and sometimes are making recommendations that are out of date. Other' are merely being conservative, forgetting just how much anxiety occurs while people wait for their test results. Combination HIV antigen/antibody 94th generation) tests are completely conclusive in persons who are not taking medications active against HIV (i.e. PrEP) at 42 days (6 weeks after an exposure. At 4 weeks they have detected over 99% of recent infections. Neither of us has ever seen someone who had a negative test at 4 weeks become positive at 6 weeks but we respect and support the CDC's 6 week guide. There is no longer any reason for a person to worry that there test results might become positive if there tests are negative at 6 weeks.
I hope these comments are helpful. EWH

At six weeks your results are conclusive and there is no reason for further testing. Testing one day before six weeks will not make a difference. Finally, if you're only exposure was receipt of masturbation, no matter what was on her hand, there was no need to test to start with so certainly you should complete confidence at test results taken one day before six weeks. thanks for your thanks. No matter what might have been on her hands, still no risk whatsoever. Your six week (- one day) test will be negative and prove that you had nothing to worry about.
this is my 3rd reply. As per Forum guidelines, the thread will be closed later today. Take care. EWH
