[Question #3871] Recent Testing

Hello Drs. I have 2 questions that I hope you guys can help me with m

1) The last time I had sex was in 2010 and it was unprotected vaginal with my ex gf. I took a test in 2014 through Kaiser Pernamante and it was a blood test antibodies 1/2 and I think I was Elisa? It says on their website. It came out negative. Is this good/accurate after 4 years for the antibody Test?

2)My only recent sex exposure (2016) was a drunk night with a friend girl. I had braces and we kissed a few session and not sure if my braces did pose a risk. She used her saliva as a Handjob for me and I also fingered her deeply for 10 seconds. Just recently, 2018, I did 3 Oraquick Test at home and all 3 came out negative. Do think this test is good for these exposures?

Thank you Drs

Welcome to the Forum. I'll be glad to comment.  As a "preview" let me assure you that you are in the clear, you do not have HIV, and that your recent exposure did not put you at any risk for HIV or other STIs.  As for your specific questions.

1.  Your results are conclusive and prove that you did not get HIV from your 2010 exposure.  Antibody only tests are completely conclusive for HIV after 9 weeks and other tests are totally conclusive at 6 weeks.  Kaiser has a great laboratory.  Believe your results and have confidence in them.

2.  The events you describe did not put you at risk for any STI, including HIV.  Kissing, including deep ("French") kissing does not pose a risk for any STI, including HIV and braces do not change this.  Similarly, receipt or participation in masturbation (i.e. receipt of a "hand job" or "fingering" are absolutely no risk events.  Your Oraqick tests are definitive and prove that you did not get HIV.

You are in the clear.  I hope that my responses are helpful to you.  Please don't worry.  EWH
