[Question #3873] herpes risk

Yesterday I went to a massage parlor, and got one of those happy ending massage. I'd gone through a really tough breakup about three weeks ago, and I guess I just feeling bad. I was just expecting a massage and a handjob type thing, but the woman didn't speak much english and thought I was looking for sex. I explained a few times, that I just wanted a handjob, but she still took all of her clothes off and ended up sort of straddling my legs while she used her hands. I one point I felt wetness pressing against my testicles. I ended up pushing her back to limit the contact, but her genitals were definitely touching my testicles for at least 8 seconds. She also kissed the shaft of my penis twice. I didn't see any sores on her, but I know asymptomatic shedding can happen, and that women can even harder to spot internal sores. Am I at risk for herpes? I've read that even without symptoms I could still have the disease. Also, prior to my our breakup, I'd been having unprotected sex with my girlfriend as neither of us had had many sexual partners. Now it's looking like there's a possibility of us getting back together. Would having sex with her after this be putting her at risk as well? I looked into testing but it apparently takes 12 weeks before you can test without symptoms. Have I just ruined any chance of fixing our relationship? I feel like my life is ending, and I'm so panicked I can barely breathe, so any help or advice would be appreciated.

I think the realistic risk of you acquiring herpes in this situation is incredibly small. The contact was so very limited. Generally, it takes a lot more contact to transmit herpes. I'm so sorry you are panicking about this but I do understand why you are worried. While I cannot tell you with 100% certainty that there is zero risk at this encounter, I would guess that there is less than a 1% chance that this gave you herpes.
Have you been tested in the past to know that you are not infected already?

Hi Terri, thanks for responding, It's nice to hear that the risk was small, and I am starting to feel a little less panicked. I did take an Igg blood test a several years ago after coming into contact with someone who thought they might have herpes. I waited 3 months or so and the tests came up negative for hsv1 and 2. Also , three days after the recent incident at the massage parlor, my primary care doctor did a full std screen including an igm test for hsv and everything came up negative again. I think the plan is to do a second igm test this week (about 10 days from the incident) since 3 days is kind of early. So far I've had no symptoms aside from occasional itching that only seems to happen when I'm actively worrying. So I guess my last question is, if the igm comes up negative a second time, do you think it's safe to assume I don't have the virus?

oh please forget the IgM test! It has tons of false positives and those scare people unnecessarily. You only want the IgG. Check out the CDC STD treatment guidelines - they say never to do the IgM. It is far more likely that you will get a false positive IgM test than that you got herpes in this situation. Please don't do it! Some people take years to get over a false positive IgM in their heads, despite negative IgG tests and even negative western blots.
