[Question #3927] Herpes transmission homosexual

My Male partner has previously tested positive for hsv1 and hsv2.  However he has never shown symptoms.  I test negative for both.  We have had protected sex in the past.

My question is that if we swap to unprotected sex, what's my chances of contraction?  Pretty much guaranteed after repeated intercourse?  Are there any medications to prevent infection?

And if I do contract hsv1 and 2, will mine likely be symptomless like his or am I rolling the dice and when I contract it, will it potentially be much more painful/breakouts, etc.

It would be best to post exactly what his test results show - which test was done and the index values associated with his test results.  There are both poor tests AND false positives on this test.  If truly infected, he can take daily medicine to reduce the risk by almost 50% of infecting you.  And condoms reduce transmission by 96% so very effective as you already know.  If you contract HSV, if he actually has it, you could have symptoms or none - it varies greatly
