[Question #3958] 4th Generation test at 41 days

Hi Drs., sorry to hear from me again. I really tried to move on, since my  last anxiety driven questions, but now I have a new situation. I was with a CSW that I met on line. We ended up a bar, where we drunk a couple of bears. After that, we went to a motel, where she gave some unprotected oral sex (I really don´t what I was thinking....maybe I got some trust on her). She told that had a little daughter and didn't look like a drug user.  But that it´s not the worst part of the history. We engaged on a protected sex after that, but I had a condom break. I didn't realize it immediatly.....maybe we had 1 minute of unprotected sex. I got tested for syphillis at six weeks (negative) and also got a 4th generation test for HIV, at exactly 41 days (negative). I was pretty confortable with the results of the test and with the guidelines that stated the four weeks window for the 4th generation tests, but then , yesterday I saw that the new guidelines for a conclusive test is six weeks (42 days). Is there too much difference between a 41 day test and a 42 day test ? Can I consider 41 days as six weeks ? Is my 41 day 4th generation test conclusive ? Thank you so much !!!

This is your 9th question in the past 3 months.  you have been warned repeatedly.  As this is a new event, I will provide a brief response.  Your risk from this exposure is statistically very low- no one has ever acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex and it is unlikely that your CSW partner had HIV.  Even if she did, your risk for infection before testing was less than 1 in 1000 and now with testing is virtually zero.  There is no meaningful difference between test results at 41 and 42 days.  Believe you test results, they are conclusive.  EWH

My biggest concern is the condom break ... Even with that condom break, can I move on ? Thanks in advance !

Repetitive.  Your test is conclusive.  Believe it.  The condom break is irrelevant with this test result.

End of thread.  No further responses.  EWH
