[Question #4005] Transmission right after exposure

I was recently exposed to HSV2.  I know exactly when I was exposed and by whom....a I have  stupid, stupid mistake.  My question relates to timeline and potential transmission to others.  Here is my timeline:  I was exposed at 11am on a Tuesday.  I noticed a headache Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning but I had a few drinks tuesday night so I assumed it was a hangover.  Took some advil and it went away.  I had sex with another person around 7am on Thursday morning - so about 44 hours after exposure.  I had no symptoms that I could tell.  Thursday evening around 11pm I felt a little raw on my penis and work up Friday morning to 6 small, bumps.  My outbreak progressed from there.   What are the chances that I was already contagious when I had sex Thursday morning?  I know that you will say its possible but how probable is it?

I keep reading how most people who get HSV2 never even know they have it but it sure seems like everyone who gets exposed goes through these terrible outbreaks.  Is it really true that most people don't have symptoms?

When you say that the outbreak progressed from there, what do you mean?  Can you elaborate please?  Blisters, ulcers?
IF you have herpes, and you don't mention seeing a clinician or having a swab test or an antibody test, even a baseline test, you may well have been contagious Thursday form a Tuesday infection, yes.  Have you seen anyone about this?

By that I mean the bumps showed up...I think they were blisters looking back on it but they scanned over in a couple of hours. They were never open or anything. Just scabbed and the scabs fell off a few days later.  But I know for certain they were not there Thursday evening when I went to bed.   I did not see anyone and haven’t seen anyone. I got an IgG antibody test that came up negative.  I was not in my home city so I couldn’t get to a doctor and it all happened so fast.

Blisters, be definition, do open and are fluid filled.  You may well have new herpes and it would not show up in an antibody test for weeks to months after infection.  At some point, I would encourage you to repeat the IgG test looking for antibody so you can be clearer about your herpes status rather than just believing that you are infected without any proof of that.
