[Question #4013] FOLLOW UP TO 3975 - HOT TUB "ADVENTURE"

Hello again doctors!
I am sorry to take up your time with another question, but I am still anxious. To refresh your memory, I was in a hot tub, naked with a female friend.  I had inserted my finger deeply into her vagina  several times, she had done the same, and then we both stroked my penis for an extended amount of time. I can honestly say that i did not penetrate her in any way with my penis ( oral, anal, or vaginal), but there may have been brief contact with the outer parts of her vagina and anus. Nearly all of this activity was in the water.  Again, I am pretty certain that she is STD free, but cannot be 100 percent sure. The days following, I have had mild discomfort in my genitals and back and maybe even a little bladder discomfort. No discharge that I can tell. I have also developed a mild sore throat

I guess my question, again, is - is there any rink of HIV transmission, with the contact with her vagina and anus as I have described? Any risk of chlamydia or gonorrhea?  (again no insertion/penetration, just very brief contact, maybe a bit of rubbing). Thank you all again so much for a great service!!

Welcome back to our Forum although I must say I'm sorry you felt the need.  I have read your earlier exchange with Dr. Handsfield and feel he was quite clear that the activities you described in the hot tub did not put you at any risk for any STI.  Masturbation, in or outside of a hot tub is a no risk event and in a hot tub, the risk is, if anything can be lower, lower than outside.  Penetration is needed for transmission of STIs, if your friend hd and infection which is most unlikely.  No risk whatsoever.  You'll need to look for other explanations for your sore throat and discomfort.  EWH

Doctor Hook,
I truly, truly appreciate your response.  I'm sure I am just being paranoid and as you and Doctor Handsfield have suggested on many threads, I am being anxious and that is amplifying normal body sensations. The sore throat is better, but for about a half an hour tonight I did have a somewhat burning sensation on the head of my penis.
I guess as a follow up question (or two) I'd like to ask...
1) STD symptoms do not come and go, correct?
 2) Would testing at the local public health service be a waste of my time, their time, and their resources?  (I think that might be my best option thought to put my mind at ease..)
Anyway, thank you for your patience and your service. Its truly appreciated sir!

I think you are processing this appropriately.  sometimes our rational minds are challenged by emotions which include guilt and anxiety.

1.  Correct, STD symptoms do not come and go and are not things one can be distracted from.
2.  Given your level of concern, while I see no medical reason for testing, the fact is that if testing would reassure you, doing so once is a fine idea.  What we react to is clients who test repeatedly.
