[Question #4104] Genital wart? Extremely Anxious! Help!

Good morning DR. In the presence of Genital Warts would they appear always in the groin or genital area or could they occur on outer upper thigh? It's a single one. I would love advice. I'm extremely nervous and worried. I'm in Tennessee btw. Thanks for your help btw. Also I do have Flat Warts on my hands. So I'm wandering if the two are connected.

Welcome back, but sorry you found it necessary.

A single bump on the upper outer thigh is unlikely to be a genital wart. (Genital warts are not common in the groin either.) They usually appear on the penis or sometimes nearby, e.g. the scrotum.

In your other thread we discussed the probability that what you have on your hands are not warts. I will repeat the advice there:  see a doctor, preferably a dermatologist, about both the hand and thigh lesions.

Hey DR thanks for responding. I did and the ones on my hands are indeed Flat Warts as suspected. The one on my thigh looks similar to something on my stomach actually. Its flat flesh colored with hair connected to it. It's not really small either. It's actually on my lower thigh left leg just above the more towards the middle to outside of my thigh. Would this be a genital wart? I've checked every inch of genital area and find none there or in groin. Please help

Since it's not on the genitals, by definition it is not a genital wart, and in that location a wart is not likely due to the HPV types that typically infect the genitals. And to my knowledge warts generally do not have hairs. Why didn't you ask the dermatologist who diagnosed the hand warts?

This forum is not a site to diagnose anything. We do not provide direct medical care and make no attempt to make a diagnosis. That's the job of a persona physician. So there's nothing more I can say about this.

I'm seeing another dermatologist tomorrow. I just needed some advice to keep my kind calm. So there is basically a zero chance of it being a ge ital wart. Out of curiosity what would a genital wart look like as far as size, shape, and location? I just want to understand. The hand warts as you advised are of no risk for cancer I dont believe.

I'm glad to hear you're seeing another dermatologist tomorrow:  good move! But in the meantime, I can't say more than I have; it is clear the thigh lesion is not a genital wart (it's not on the genitals, which is the only definition of genital warts). You can google something like "genital wart photos" to see lots of examples.

Normally threads are closed after three questions/comments and replies. However, I'm going to leave this open until tomorrow so you can let me know what your new dermatologist says, at which time I might have a final comment or advice. Do not add anything more to this thread until then, or it will be closed -- and because repeated threads on the same topic are not permitted, a third question on this topic will not be accepted or answered. Thanks for your understanding.

Hey Dr. Just finished my appointment. She said the thigh lesion was an age spot. I had noticed something on my inner groin which I was sure was a wart. The dermatologist insists it's a skin rag even though it was round. I'm extremely nervous. She said if she even thought it was a wart she would've had a biopsy done. In your professional and expert opinion should I believe this is fact? Thank you in advance

You can believe the dermatologist. There is no way she would mix up an age spot or skin tag with warts. But the more important issue is your hands. What did she say about the spots on your hands? (Why are you so much more focused and worried about your genital skin than your hands? Your penis and genital area aren't all that special!) ---

She said the hands are indeed flat warts si I was right about those. She said they're truly harmless. I just thought all skin tags had stalks in them. So basically I shouldnt question her diagnosis in anyway you dont believe? She said if she thought it were as much as I worried about it she would've done a biopsy. You have been a great help. Just to confirm flat warts are harmless I believe. I was certain it was a genital wart. So I should move on?

I'm glad to hear it's all sorted out. Still a bit surprised about multiple flat warts of the hands, but it sounds like you have a knowledgeable dermatologist you can trust. To my knowledge, this is a harmless condition -- but your dermatologist is much more expert about this than I am. (I have never seen or to my knowledge cared for any patient with flat warts of the hands or arms.)

In any case, you definitely can be certain you do not have genital warts and for sure can move on without further worry about it.

That concludes this thread. As noted above, it shouldn't be necessary to ask about it again on this forum. You would not receive any different answers than you already have.

I'm glad the discussion has been helpful. Best wishes to you.
