[Question #4146] Follow up - licking fingers and frottage

Hi Doctors,

I hate to ask another question to the detriment of other users - especially after the excellent advice on my last questiin -but perhaps through a mixture of guilt and anxiety I just would really appreciate some extra clarity.

During my "incident" while performing cunnilingus  I was also fingering my partner. I removed my finger multiple times and licked it immediately (ie a finger covered in vaginal secretions only exposed to air for a matter of seconds). I have relatively good oral hygiene though occasionally gums bleed if I brush hard - indeed I brushed my teeth hours before going out and had some minor blood  When rinsing out.

We also had vagina on penile frottage- very close but not insertion.

Also while having sex the condom did roll up to about a third on but still entirely covered the head of the penis. Is that suffice?

Does this change anything? I know hiv becomes unable to infect (I believe?) When exposed to air but obviously it was a very quick transfer from her vagina, to my fingers to (stupidly) my mouth.

Obviously I have my own long term partner but have not been having sex with her out of fear - also the anxiety of waiting for 6 weeks and then the test results will cripple me.with fear.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Docs,

I'd like to add that over 2 weeks since, (2 weeks and 2 days) I've had itching skin all.over, stomach cramps and occasional hot flushes? Hopefully not indicative of a seroconversion?

Welcome to our Forum.  On this occasion I will be answering your question.  In preparing to answer your question I reviewed your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and see that nearly all of the questions you have asked basically repeat your questions asked about 10 days ago.  I agree with all that Dr. Handsfield said and thus, much of what I am about to say is repetitive.  It is unlikely that your partner has an STI of any sort and even if she did, the activities you describe were virtually no risk for STI acquisition.  Cunnilingus rarely, if ever leads to infection and frottage which is a form or masturbation has never been associated with acquisition of HIV or other bacterial STIs.  You are not going to be the first.   similarly, transfer of her vaginal secretions to your mouth on your finger is a no risk event because both of the effect of exposure of the secretions to the air during transfer and because the mechanical events of transfer reduce the presence of an bacterial which might have been present. I see no medical reason for even testing but like Dr. Handsfield feel that if it would help your anxiety, testing could be performed.  Testing for throat infection with gonorrhea or chlamydial can be done at this time and would be entirely reliable.

Regarding your other questions:
1.  That you had brushed your teeth and that there was a little bit of bleeding from your mouth in no way changes my assessment.  Still essentially no risk.
2.  As long as the condom was worn throughout penetrative sex and covered the tip of your penis, it was doing its job of protecting you from STI.
3.  Itching of the skin or stomach cramps or hot flashes are not signs of the ARS

Please don't worry.  It sounds like your guilt and anxiety over your recent exposure is getting the best of you.  You really need not worry.  I would bet huge sums of money that you have not acquired any STI, including HIV from the encounter you describe and I am not a betting person.  Please try not to worry.  EWH

Thanks for your reply Doctor Hook I took a lot of comfort from it.

I have a nasty sore throat when swallowing at the moment (though I've returned to work on Monday from vacation and in my job am working on a high volumeworkplace with 80+ people) And a temp of 37.2 C - still ok but at the "highest end" before considered a fever - about 99F - checked in conjunction. Would this be anything to be concerned about- 3 weeks after the incident? It's typical and predictable I'd get this after my recent worry..the two symptoms I didn't want

Thanks again

Thanks for the additional information.  It does not change my opinion however. The fever of the ARSis far higher.  EWH---

Hi Doctor, I know this is my final follow up and I've read over your and Dr. HHHs kind comments multiple times to help me get over this and move on.

Would the onset of a white furry tongue and continued sore throat (now 3 weeks and 4 days) since the licking fingers/cunnilingus/condom protected vaginal sex occurred change any In regard to stds and in particular hiv? Its a complete oddity for me to have anything unusual on my tongue? Again I work in education so have students with coughs and colds even in August - perhaps an alternative reason?

A furry tongue is not a sign of an STI.  I would not worry that his is related to your exposure to incidental contact with a partners' vaginalis secretions.  Such finding are more common among smokers but if you are not a smoker, such things do happen from time to time without a good explanation.  I would not worry that if reflects an STI or jeopardizes your health however.

As you point out, this is my 3rd response. This thread will therefore be closed later today.  Take care.  Please don't worry.  EWH
