[Question #4156] Herpes Test Results

-I had a sexual encounter last year. I got a penile rash that lasted 2 weeks and went away.

-40 weeks later i got tested for herpes.

-The test i took was an IGG blood test for HSV 1 + 2

-both results came back negative.

My results came back just 24 HOURS after my blood test was done. I thought these type of test results took multiple days to be considered accurate.

Can my results be accurate for a negative result after just 24 hours after being sent in? Should i be retested?

THANKS

Can you tell me more about the rash?
The IgG test misses about 30% of HSV 1 infections and about 8% of HSV 2 infections, compared to the gold standard western blot
Yes, the results can come back as quickly as 24 hours and will be as accurate as the test gets.

I got a rash inside my foreskin about 30 hours after a sexual encounter. My primary care physician diagnosed it as balanitis. It was red but didn’t really itch much. It stayed for about a week and half. The bumps never cracked or leaked any fluids. No burning urination either.

That sounds very much like a fungal infection to me, the most common cause of the balanitis. This does not sound like herpes. Men who still have a foreskin are more vulnerable to acquiring a fungal infection beneath the foreskin has that area is warm and moist and dark and an  ideal location for growing this organism
