[Question #4327] Risk of HIV

Hello Doctor,

I was at a house party last night, where I used the toilet. While I was in the toilet, the jetspray nozzle happened to touch my butt and anal area. I am not very sure who used the toilet before or how clean the nozzle was. I am worried this has put me at risk of getting infected with HIV. What should I do?

Thanks & Regards

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

Your username is similar to others who have used Kristal. I don't think you're the same person, but the others also asked about HIV risk from nonsexual and other obviously low risk exposures. Nobody ever gets HIV from exposure of any kind to the virus in the environment:  never by toilet seats, contact with blood in the environment, or after years of living with HIV infected persons and daily sharing of kitchens, toilets, and so on. Certainly nobody has ever been infected by contact with a toilet cleaning nozzle. There is also no risk of any other STD, and very little risk from any other infection of any kind. You needn't worry at all. You will never get HIV if you don't have sex or share drug injection equipment with an HIV infected person.

My chance, in a recent thread with another "kristal" (not captialized) I went into more detail on lack of risk other than sexual, shared needles, etc. Read my last follow-up comment in question no. 4286.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you doctor for your reply and putting my mind at ease.
This is my first time asking a question at the forum, probably just a coincidence about the similarities.
I would also like to know the risk associated with splashing of the toilet water on the bare genital area (eg: vagina, anus....etc) unknown to the fact about who used the toilet before me?

I am  considering the worst possibility that some ejaculated or did not flush properly.

As I said above, nobody ever gets any STD from this sort of thing. There is no risk, regardless of who used the toilet previously and whether or not s/he had any STD. In my 40+ years in the STD business, my clinic has never had a patient with any STDs who did not have sex with an infected person. Don't worry about this!---
