[Question #4339] Follow up to question 4289

I have some updates from last time (#4289). So to recap, the burning sensation below my lip lasted for 12 days, on and off. Then it stopped. I felt it again on Day 16, and Day 20.

But then it started back up again on Day 23 and I felt it every day since - on and off. Some days I feel it burning for an hour or more. Other days, it's just a few minutes. It's now Day 33. What concerns me now is that I noticed a tiny bump below my lip on Day 27. It's pretty hard to see, but it's obvious if I shine a flashlight on it. It doesn’t hurt or itch, and isn’t red. It doesn’t look like a pimple either. It’s been there for 6 days now. It hasn’t changed in size or shape. It still looks the same. It’s in the area where I feel this burning sensation.

It’s Day 33 now and I still feel the burning sensation occasionally. And now there’s this bump around there too. So I’m not sure what to think any more. Does it sound like a cold sore to you? Do you recommend I go to a doctor/dermatologist and get it checked?

Welcome back to the Forum.  Today I happened to pick up your question rather than Dr. Handsfield.  I did review your earlier interaction with him and agree with all that he said.  The intermittent burning you have described really does not sound at all like any STI, including HSV.  Further, HSV lesions would not appear in the manner that you suggest.  HSV lesions do not last this long, either as initial episodes or as recurrences. At his point going to a dermatologist might be a good idea to determine what this is- there is really nothing to suggest that these symptoms not the bump you describe are HSV or any other STI.  EWH
