[Question #4418] Exposure and antibiotic use

I visited a massage parlor and rubbed my penis on the anus of the girl. I did it firmly and for some time until orgasm. Exposure was seven days ago.
That same night I began a course of doxycycline for a sinus infection and have been taking it since. I also took 500mg of cipro 2x/day for 3 days (left over from prostitis treatment last year.

At day 7 I have frequent urination and itching in urethra, Clear discharge  and aching in testicles.

Is this likely an sti? Or, would the antibiotics have prevented that? What should I do next?

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your question. The exposure you describe is a form of masturbation which is sometimes referred to as "frottage"  and is a no risk encounter for most STI's. For the most common STI's such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, penetration is required.   Thus, even without antibiotics the encounter you describe is very low risk for STI. In addition, urinary frequency is not associated with sexually transmitted infections.   Finally, the antibiotics you have taken, doxycycline and ciprofloxacin in combination, are highly active against the vast majority of STI pathogens.   Symptoms such as urinary frequency or genital itching may be signs of an infection or may be a manifestation of genitally-focused anxiety related to sexual encounters that one questions in retrospect.   Given her the variety of possible causes and the fact that you are already taken highly effective antibiotics, my advice would be to seek an examination and evaluation by a trained physician  Who can directly examine your genital tract and order appropriate tests. This  is almost certainly not an STI and  may not be any infection at all.

I hope that this assessment is helpful to you.  EWH

Thank you for the reply. Turns out it was probably stress induced. It only seemed to create symptoms when I was thinking about it.

Questions: does urination and or washing after sex help prevent any sti’s?
I have hsv2. Have not passed to girlfriend after 3 yrs. i take valtrex daily and use condoms when I have sensations in thigh that usually preceed outbreaks.

Thank you.

Thank you for the follow-up.  Glad to hear (and not surprised) that all is ell.

There are no good studies which answer the question of whether or not urination or washing after sex reduces the risk for infection  My educated guess is, that if has any effect, the effect is small.

I am glad to hear that you are taking valacyclovir prophylaxis for your HSV- clearly it has reduced the risk for transmission to your partner.  EWH
