[Question #4432] Chlamydia & Gonorrhea Test

This is my situation 1 year and 3 months ago I went to a strip club with some friends and I had a lap dance, during it I was fully clothed(shirt, boxer, jeans)  and the stripper was naked.  Since then I haven’t been able to get out from the back of my mind the worry I could have caught something.
Due to life insurance renewal I was tested for Hiv(negative) at the end of last year  and a couple of months ago I had my annual blood test and a urine culture and everything was normal.  I haven’t had any symptom or discharge or problem during all this time but I do get very anxious from time to time and do tend to check myself more often than normal.
I really want to leave this behind and decided to take a Chlamydia & Gonorrhea Test  for peace of mind  but just realized that is only 11 days since i finish a 7 day treatment of levofloxacim for a bronchitis I had , now the thought of the test could have a not accurate result due to the antibiotics it really bugs me.
I took the test yesterday (NAAT).
My questions are:
1)  Was I ever at any risk due to the lap dance contact.
2) If I get a negative result from the test is  it reliable and conclusive or could it be affected by the antibiotics I took 11 days before the test.
I have read your posts but never asked a question before.
I really appreciate your input and expert opinion to help me either leave this behind once for all or is there something I should be worry about or do something else about it.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long question.

Hi Dr.  H
Just wanted to add to question #2 that I just got the tests result and they are both negative.   Thanks.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll be glad to comment.  The event you describe was a no risk event.  Most commercial sex workers do not have STIs.  Even when they do, no STIs, including HIV can be transmitted through clothing, even if the cloth was to get wet from genital secretions.  Your risk for infection from the events you describe was absolutely zero.  Thus, in answer to your specific questions:

1)  Was I ever at any risk due to the lap dance contact.
See above - there was no risk at all.

2) If I get a negative result from the test is  it reliable and conclusive or could it be affected by the antibiotics I took 11 days before the test.
This is a two part answer.  First, 7 days of levofloxacin would have cured any chlamydial infection that was present and 80% of gonorrhea.  In addition, a NAAT test taken 10-11 days after completion of antibiotics would provide reliable results. In your case I am confident the result will be negative.

I hope that this information is helpful to you.  Please don't worry.  EWH

Thank you so much for your answer Dr.  Hook.
The result came back  both negative.
Based on your answer can I be confident than due to the lack of symptoms during all this time and the test results I never had any infection and it was just my fear or anxiety playing tricks on me and I don’t need any more testing?  This is my last question, thank you so much in advance for your services and patience.

Yes, you can be entirely confident that there was no risk and that you did not acquire an STI from the activities you have described.  Your experience is like that of many of our clients.  When any of us begin to look for sensations at any part of the body, there is a tendency to notice normal sensations that are otherwise overlooked.

I hope this information has been helpful.  Take care.  EWH
