[Question #4446] Help, concerned I might have herpes

Hello, I’m concerned that I might have herpes, but my symptoms are all over the place. I’ve been having irritation on my vulva. It looks red on the center of my labia minora but painless. The main area that I’m experiencing a weird discomfort is my vestibule (I believe it’s called?) the opening of the vagina. Doesn’t hurt just a self aware weird feeling. It’s also red. For a little while the public area of my vulva kinda felt like the pubic hair was being pulled when it was not with kind of a burning feeling. I shaved all of it off and all my symptoms when away. But then the redness in labia returned. I then took a picture of my downstairs and right in the inner folds were bumps that kind of look like herpes. Looks kind of like the bumps that are usually on that part of the skin but more risen.   Does any of this sound like herpes and can the herpes blisters be painless? Because those bumps don’t hurt even when I urinate, which I read should hurt?  Please help

I think herpes is very unlikely in your situation for a few reasons:  1) you've not had the classic blisters or ulceration of the labia or vagina that we most often see with herpes and 2) it is not painful.  Most times, if women have open herpes lesions on the labia, and they do open there and turn into ulcers, they have pain as urine passes over the open areas.  Have you seen a healthcare provider about this?  If not, you may wish to touch base and express your concerns - you could have something entirely different going on like a simple yeast infection causing the redness and weird feelings.  And if they felt herpes was a concern or possibility at all, they could swab the area for you

I’ve made an appointment, but they can’t get me in for a few weeks. And after looking up pictures of vestibular papillomatosis, it’s almost exactly like what I saw on me. I’ve been tested for a few other common stds. All negative. I think I’m hyper worried about herpes because it’s one that I haven’t been tested for. Also, it’s never consistent, but at times it does feel like a slight dull burning sensation in vulva areas. Like I can go an entire day feeling normal down there and then a slight burning the next? I definitely don’t have the typical lesions of herpes, but the fact that the symptoms never stay away too have me super confused. Can herpes cause a burning feeling that comes and goes daily?

No, herpes does not occur every day.  It is something that comes for several days and then goes away - it is not an every day thing that happens.
If you cannot stop worrying about this, I think you should be tested.  The very best test is the herpes western blot but you could start with the IgG test and go from there, should it be positive.  but I an reassure you that your symptoms are not consistent with herpes, based on what you've said here.
