[Question #4472] Hotel bed and HIV

Hello, dear Experts. I am writing here for your reassurance mostly as I think there was not potential risk, but still. My kid and I arrived to the hotel. He was on the bed and after he played on it a little, I only then noticed large yellow stains which I assume was urine. It smelled like it too. It was yellow with brown ring around it. Fairly large. I guess housekeeping did not change the sheets after last guests, jut tucked everything in. I have no idea when the room was used before us. My child was on those sheets in shirts, and he usually often touches his face, eyes. He also slept a little on that bed. I THINK there is no risk from such exposure from HIV and Hep C etc, but can you please reassure me that is the case. I kinda kicking myself for not checking the bed before I let my little guy to use it and lie in it almost naked. Thank you.

Ugh, I agree.  It sounds like your sheets were not changed between occupants.  While not pleasant to think about however, there is no reason for concern about acquisition of HIV, hepatitis or any other STI from slept on another person's urine-contaminated  sheets.  That your son may have touched the spot and then rubbed his face or eyes does not change my assessment.  EWH ---
