[Question #4501] Question #4436 Update

Hello Experts,

I am seeing my PCP today (in a few hours actually).

I've developed some new symptoms that have me concerned that I will obviously share with him during my checkup. I wanted to share them with you as well because I would like to cover all my bases, and possibly be reassured.

I've developed a sore throat for past week that has not gone away. I will have that checked today.

I remember that a week or so after my exposure I had pain in my lower back. (Not the middle portion of my back but on the right and left sides. I think where the kidneys are located). It went away the next day so I ignored it. Well ... its come back (on and off since my original conversation with Dr. Handsfield). Its been hurting since yesterday to the point that I think it is bruised from me constantly rubbing and massaging it.

What has put my concern over the edge is yesterday when I went to urinate it was extremely difficult. I stood there for a while and than when i was finally able to go the stream was weak and inconsistent. There was dribbling at the end. I've never had that happen to me before. Obviously this concerned me. I immediately drank a glass of water. The next time I went the stream was fine as it normally is so I have no idea if this was a one time thing.

The discomfort when I urinate or go number 2 is still there. A burning stinging pain on the tip of my penis and just a burning pain on my backside. The itching in my anus is gone after taking Dr. Handsfields advice about washing twice a day.

Obviously I can't go through life trying to link all these things to a possible std, but given the timing and more importantly since I have not had a full batch of tests done yet (which I'm sure will change today) I have to see if these are all related.

Do any of these symptoms concern you? Are they consistent with anything std related? This whole thing is frustrating and scary, but hopefully I should have answers soon.

Just got back from the doctor.

He did a urinalysis that came back clean. So no bacterial infection.
He said my lower back where I am having pain on the right and left said is way too low for it to be my kidneys.
He did notice that my throat was red. He did strep test and flu test both of which came back negative. So he said it was probably just a viral thing.
There was also no fever.
He was not sure about the burning pain when urinating since I told him my gonnoreha and chlamdia( i'm sure i'm spelling it wrong) test had come back negative.

He does want me to come back next week for a complete STD panel which include the Hepatitis panel. This has me worried. I'm assuming I should NOT be too worried based on Dr. Handsfields original comments that he considered my exposure risk very very low? My doctor is on the more conservative side so he just wants to rule out everything so that I can move on with my life.

Sigh ... I’ve also developed an ulcer on the side of my tounge. I remember that there was kissing and licking of her breasts and nipples. Should I be concerned of all these symptoms 50ish days in? Between the tounge ulcer, sore throat, and back pain? Do these sound std related to you?

Any one there?

I feel like my question may have been missed. Sorry for the long diatribe from last week. I'm not usually this anxious but my ignorance has me extremely paranoid.

My biggest concern currently is my lower back pain. It alternates between lower left, lower middle, and lower right side but is now constant and every day. I don't remember lifting anything heavy. My sore throat is still there. My canker sore I will attribute to stress.

I made the mistake of looking up back pain and stds over the weekend. That was a bad idea.

I suppose it doesn't matter as I am scheduled for testing on Monday. Monday will be day 61.

My doctor has me set up for blood testing for

Syphllis, HIV, Hep A, Hep B, Hep C, HSV1 and HSV2.

I'm not sure why all the tests above other than he wants to ease my  nerves. He has been my doctor for quite some time.

Would any of the above Stis explain my back pain and would it show up this quickly (less than 2 months)?

Thanks for all you do!

Hi, sorry about that - this question was asked under STI questions and I do herpes questions but I think it came to me because we had talked about herpes before.
The sore on your tongue is most likely a canker sore - HSV 1 normally recurs on the outside of the mouth.
The back pain doesn't sound anything like an STI - I think he's doing the testing to help put your mind at ease which is not a bad thing, right?
Try to stay off the internet looking up symptoms, it will not be helpful for you I don't think.

Thanks Terri. Yes he is doing the tests to put my mind at ease. I guess I freaked out after I read that hep B could give you back aches and mine has been hurting for over a week now. I’m sure you all have heard stories like that a thousand times before. Yes I will stay off the Internet from now on regarding symptoms.

I’m looking forward to sharing my test results with you all next week. It will either be the greatest Thanksgiving of my life or the worst. Dr. Handsfield felt my risk was very low so that gives me hope.

I can’t think you all enough for your service. Talking through all this with people like me who are all obviously in some of the scariest times of their lives is truly priceless. Thank you all again for all you do.

You are most welcome.  You've hit the maximum questions you can ask, but I will leave this open for you to post results only, OK?
