[Question #4609] HSV2 testing help

Confused about recent HSV2 test results.
I am 30 years old. Sexual history is limited. Only had sex with wife of 10 years. Prior to wife, engaged in oral sex but was young so maybe 3-4 partners. In last five years had one instance of unprotected oral from one night stand (4 yrs ago) a couple hand jobs from strippers and a covered bj from a csw two-three months ago.
Never had any symptoms orally or on genitals.
Being paranoid, got tested for all stds at labcorp. Everything negative but hsv2 at 2.5 but the supplemental test was negative. Retook test two additional times and the igg was positive at 2.6 and 2.8 but supplemental negative both times.
Dr says to treat like I have hsv2 and to get owife tested. Doesn’t think supplemental test is accurate if initial test still showing positive. I feel like I am very low risk given history and lack of symptoms.
Any thoughts?

You are very low risk. Has your wife had sex with other people in her lifetime and has she been tested? If she tests negative (or even before if you don't want to ask her to get tested), I would strongly encourage you to obtain the herpes western blot from the university of Washington. This is considered the definitive test for herpes antibody. The Center for disease control recommends that everyone who tests positive on the herpes antibody test within index value between 1.1 and 3.5 obtain confirmatory testing, preferably with Western blot. The fact that the confirmatory test done at labcorp was negative is definitely in your favor, suggesting a false positive. From your post, it sounds like you have had intercourse with only one person which makes you very low risk unless your wife is infected with HSV-2. HSV-2 is almost never transmitted via oral sex. You can work with your own provider to obtain this test or I can help you obtain it. If you want my help, you can sign up for a video conference with me at my website, www.WestoverHeights.com. I highly suspect a false positive here.

Thanks Terri. My wife and I only had sex with each other and I believe she would have been tested when she had our kids over the past six years.
I believe I am low risk but the positive initial test and Negative supplementary test combined with my doctors lack of understanding about HSV testing is driving me nuts. I had three HSV 2 tests each a week apart and supplemental was negative on all.
Before pursuing a western blot - is the negative supplementary considered accurate two months out from a covered oral exposure (Which I realize is no or very low risk)?
My only somewhat risky exposure outside my marrriage would be unprotected oral during one night stand four years ago which I’m assuming would have showed symptoms and a positive initial and supplemental if I caught it. I have never had any symptoms.
Also, I believe I read in your other posts that there’s no point of taking any more igg tests because if it is a false positive it could be a protein in blood tricking test. Correct?
Thanks

she may or may not have been tested with pregnancy but that certainly does not always happen during pregnancy.
If you and your wife have only had intercourse with each other in your lifetimes, then I see no reason to worry about herpes. It is a sexually transmitted infection and neither of you have had an opportunity to acquire this. You likely have a protein in your blood that is the same molecular weight as one of the herpes antibody proteins but is unrelated to herpes.
There is absolutely no reason to take any more IgG tests, period.

I have tried to sort out what test that is and at one point, I thought it was a Biokit which is a good test but then I heard no, it was something else.
You do NOT need to retest in 2-4 weeks.
