[Question #4623] Question on elite controllers

I have recently been suffering from some anxiety relating to a possible hiv scare I had now over 5 and a half year ago.

I was tested five or six times for antibodies using duo tests (3months, 6months, 9 months, 12 months & 18 months) and finally for virus using the PNR test. (two years)

My main question is that if I was an elite controller or long term non progressor (person that controls the virus to undetectable levels) would I definitely have still produced antibodies and therefore because my antibody tests were negative I can be certain I don’t have hiv?

Do the elite controllers and long term non progressors still generate antibodies the same as anyone else infected with the virus?

Welcome back to the forum. I quckly glanced at our discussion ~1.5 yr ago; sorry to see you're still (irrationally) concerned about it.

The answer to your question is brief:  there is no connection at all between HIV elite controller or nonprogressor and blood test results. Such persons have normal blood test results on the same schedule as anyone else. Your negative test results are conclusive even if you were to be an elite controller.

You really should consider counseling about this. You're obviously obsessed and it seems to signficantly affecting your life. I suggest it from compassion, not criticism. It is not normal to remain so concerned after the number of tests you have had and the frequent, science based reassurance you have had, probably from your own doctors as well as this forum.

I hope these comments are helpful. Best wishes.

Thanks. I did receive counselling for this and was fine for a good while but have just become a bit anxious again.

So elite controllers and long term non progressors would still test antibody positive at the same time as anyone else? and remain antibody positive througout?

Re-read my reply above. I haven't changed my mind in the past hour! The answers are yes and yes.---

In regard to your response on my other post which was closed, ketoconozole is an anti fungal medication.

So if it did theoretically prevent antibodies and I was an elite controller then how would any of the tests be of use?

Or am I just being completely irrational?  Because the anti fungal medication surely wouldn’t have stayed in my system for over a year (period of testing) restricting antibodies without me becoming extremely unwell?

Is it the antibody response (I.e very good) that makes elite controllers keep the viral load down? Hence it would be impossible to have undetectable antibodies and undetectable viral load?

A response to these queries should greatly help me rule out any possibility I have HIV

Many Thanks

I'm very familiar with ketoconazole. Not sure what your point is, though. Antifungals are a class of antibiotics.

I'm not going to speculate theoretically on impossible things. May as well debate angels on pinheads.

I do not know the biology behind why some persons do not develop significant immune deficiency. But I do know that all HIV tests are unchanged in their performance.

There is already no possibility you have HIV.  And yes, you are being "entirely irrational". I'm afraid this forum can't help solve that. And we will not tolerate further irrational quesitons. Please note the forum does not permit repeated questions on the same topic or exposure. This will have to be your last one; future new questions about your exposure 5 years ago, HIV testing, and your fears about HIV may receive no reply and the posting fee will not be refunded. This policy is based on compassion, not criticism, and to reduce temptations to keep paying for questions with obvious answers. In addition, experience shows that continued answers tend to prolong users' anxieties rather than reducing them. Finally, such questions have little educational value for other users, one of the forum's main purposes. Thanks for your understanding.
