[Question #4635] Oral Sex - Hypospadias and STD/HIV

Hello Doctors, I would like to ask for your opinion on the relationship between oral sex and HIV given I have hypospadias.
1. It seems to me that I am likely to get STD from unprotected sex and maybe one time from ORAL sex due to my hypospadias. Is there any way that I can do to reduce my risk? Take antibiotics before and after the sex?  Or having condom for Oral sex? What are the best practice for me to enjoy Oral sex?
2. What's the HIV risk receiving the oral sex from some unknown status women given my hypospadias situation. I know for the normal male, receiving oral sex is a no risk act, but how about someone having the hypospadias?
3. Regarding the intercourse. If the condom is correctly used, can I say this is 100% safe of HIV infection? Thank you.

Welcome back to the forum. Thanks for your confidence in our services.

1,2) These two questions are the same question, using different words. Thare are no data to suggest that hypospadias increases the risk of HIV or any other STD, whetehr by oral, vaginal, or anal sex. And I cannot think of an antomic or physiologic reason to expect increased risk. As you probably know from experience on this forum, oral sex has never been proved -- even once -- to be transmitted from mouth to penis. I don't htink you need follow any special procedures to enjoy participating in oral sex.

3) No vaginal sex is 100% safe from HIV. With proper condom use and no condom breakage, the risk is extremely low -- low enough that testing isn'tneeded and there should be no worry afterward.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you for your reply, Dr. Handsfield.
1. When I did the surgery, the tip of the urethra is still in the bottom part of the glans. This makes the urethra slightly shorter than the normal person where their tip of the urethra is in the middle part. I guess this might contribute to the increased risk of STD as the virus transmit shorter distance?
2. Apart from the proper condom use, what do you recommend to reduce the risk of HIV?  Thank you!

No, I don't see why a somewhat shorter urethra, or the location of the meatus, should make any difference in HIV/STD risk. I have no recommendations about HIV avoidance other than the standard ones about sexual safety, and no suggestions on account of having hypospadias.---
