[Question #4688] HIV Risk from Strip Club?

Dear Doctor,

Recently I went to a strip club in New York City with a friend. During a private dance, a stripper licked/sucked on my nipples and my face where I had some acne and some small wounds caused by acne. I was just wondering if I was at any risk of being infected with HIV and if I should get tested. I look forward to your kind help and guidance!

Best,
Jack

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll be glad to comment.  Most exotic dancers and commercial sex workers, including in New York do not have HIV.  Even more importantly, there is no evidence that HIV is transmitted by kissing or by saliva.  No one had ever been infected by having their nipples sucked, their face licked or even by direct receipt of oral sex.   Your acne in no way changes this, still no risk.  You have nothing to worry about and do not need testing.

I hope this information is helpful to you.  EWH

Dear Doctor Hook,

Thank you for your kind reply! I actually just found out that there’s a small wound on one of my finger joints that seems to have bled a little. I think I might have gotten that somehow in the club. Does this post any additional risk for me? Look forward to your kind response!

As for your acne lesions, cuts and scrapes on your hands and fingers do not represent a risk for HIV.  Still no risk, no need for testing or concern.  EWH---
