When I have a breakout I do not get the pimples that break open and leak fluid. I get pain and heat but not the typical breakout that is common. I take Valacyclovir 500 MG daily and my outbreaks are rare. They occur maybe 2 times a year and last 3 days at the most. I was with the same sex partner for 12 years and she has never contracted the virus. Last night I had a new partner and before I could tell her what I have, we had sex. I am so worried about her and fear I may have given her the Herpes. I was not having a breakout at the time and I did not wear a condom. She has no symptons yet but is has been just 72 hours.

The likelihood that you transmitted this virus at a single encounter is low. And it's great that you are on suppression as that reduces the risk of transmission by almost 50%. And you recognize that this is probably not a mistake that you would like to make again. IF she has become infected, she would likely have symptoms within 2-10 days. Are you going to talk to her about this?

Terri, hank you for your reply. Yes, after I sweat out these next few days and my new friend does not have the virus, I am going to sit down with her for a nice talk. I am so mad at myself for not having the self control Saturday night. This is a person that I was in love with about 12 years ago and I left her for a younger woman(big mistake) So I sought out my prior love and we are getting along really well. Not certain if she will stay with me once I tell her. I wanted to as you why my prior love never got the virus and we had unprotected sex for 12 years? I am so glad of this but could it be because I never have the open sores that most people have and take the pills. I have had Herpes for over 14 years and I never infected anyone. Kind of strange.

Welcome to the world of fallible people!
How do you know that you have HSV 1 and 2? What kind of testing have you had done? And how do you know that your partner is not infected? 80% of those infected don't know so to assume that they are not may not be accurate - hard to know for sure just by history.
I so hope you will be forgiven - we all make mistakes and all we can hope for is that people will forgive us with a gentle heart

Terri, when I first had the symptoms of a red rash and terrible burning in the goin area I went to my family doctor and he sent me to the lab for testing by taking blood. As soon as I took two Valtrex and the burning went away in like 1 hour. My doctor told me from the test I had both HVS 1 and 2. But again, I have never had blisters that open and leak fluid. When I get an attack it is the redness and burning that goes away really fast like 3 days. Have you heard of these symptoms before in other patients?

Valtrex would not likely make herpes symptoms go away in an hour but possible I suppose. What were the index values on your HSV 1 and 2 IgG test results?
