[Question #4736] If not herpes what else??

Hello.
Thanks you for answering my question
I spoke earlier to Terri who thinks my exposure will not lead to herpes.
19 days ago 5 seconds of genital contact between myself and another woman. I've had burning skin in my area. 2 days ago I had fever, body aches, and extreme lethargy and lack of appetite that came and went every once in a while.  My son does have a stomach virus and I had a light touch of diarrhea.
1-Do you agree 19 days is too long to see herpes?
2-Could syphilis be playing a part in my symptoms?
3'In one answer terri said I had the flu like symptoms but no herpes sores did she mean that I would see the sores in combination with the flu like symptoms?
4-Could this be HPV? Does that have flu like symptoms also?
5-Without penetration could other STDS be transmitted?
6-could the burning skin be taken the place of herpes blisters and that is my outbreak?

Welcome back to the Forum.  I'll try to help, first by telling you that Terri is a highly experienced colleague who has years of experience and vast expertise.  There is no "need" to check on what she has told you- I agree with her completely.  The exposure you described was so low that while there is theoretical risk for having acquired an STI, that theoretical risk is even lower than described by Terri- I would place your risk as at about the same level as your risk of being hit today by a meteorite falling from space.  It is simply not something worth worrying about.  With that background, let me address your specific questions:
1-Do you agree 19 days is too long to see herpes?
yes, I agree completely

2-Could syphilis be playing a part in my symptoms?
no.  Your symptoms in no way suggest syphilis or any other STI'

3'In one answer terri said I had the flu like symptoms but no herpes sores did she mean that I would see the sores in combination with the flu like symptoms?
yes

4-Could this be HPV? Does that have flu like symptoms also?
No this in no way suggests HPV which take months to develop and, other than causing lesions is typically asymptomatic.

5-Without penetration could other STDS be transmitted?
No!

6-could the burning skin be taken the place of herpes blisters and that is my outbreak?
No.

I hope these responses will be helpful to you.  I do understand that you are anxious and perhaps feeling a bit guilty.  That said, there is no indication that your misstep has led to an STI.  You need to get by this and work and moving forward, not worrying about STIs.  EWH

Hey Dr Hook,
Thanks again for all you guys do and i have extreme confindence in the answer you give.
I've been doing some research on your site and saw at one point that Dr Warren said to someone else either you are not infected or will just not develop symptoms.
1- Is it possible to be infected and not develop symptoms?
2- I am 23 days out and have no seen any blisters, would they be where the contact happen or could it be anywhere on the region and is it far past when i would see them?
3- I plan to get IGG at 4 weeks then again at 8 weak, what are the accuracy of those test at that time?
4- I have had some body aches come and go and some flu like symptoms come and go, I know you said i would see sores along with these symptoms but if people could not develop symptoms could the be related?

Straight to your follow-up questions:
1- Is it possible to be infected and not develop symptoms?
Yes.

2- I am 23 days out and have no seen any blisters, would they be where the contact happen or could it be anywhere on the region and is it far past when i would see them?
If you were going to develop an outbreak, you certainly would have done so by now.  The outbreak would have been obvious and would have occurred at a site of contact.

3- I plan to get IGG at 4 weeks then again at 8 weak, what are the accuracy of those test at that time?
In your situation, your risk of having a falsely positive IgG test is higher than your risk for herpes.  Further if the test was clearly positive, that would not tell you how long you were infected.  I really see no need for testing.

4- I have had some body aches come and go and some flu like symptoms come and go, I know you said i would see sores along with these symptoms but if people could not develop.
When persons have symptoms of HSV such as body aches, they typically also have lesions.  Your occasional body aches are likely due to something other than HSV.  EWH

Hey Dr Hook
I went for a full panel of STDs blood test today. It's been 5 weaks since possible exposure. How accurate do you think it is at 5 weeks. Also how soon after the 2-10 days stretch for first outbreak does the second outbreak come? Meaning when is the second showing of herpes

Your five week results will be definitive and I encourage you to now move on.

On average, after a person has newly acquired genital HSV-2 infection, the first recurrence occurs about 4-6 weeks after resolution of the initial

This will conclude this thread.  Take care. EWH
