If I have contracted HSV-1 onto my genitals by receiving oral sex, can I transfer HSV-1 to someone else through genital to genital contact if I have no visible sores, or will HSV-1 only transfer to the genitals from mouth to genital contact?

Is it possible? Yes, this kind of genital to genital transmission has been documented in the literature. However, having said that, neither Dr. Hook, Dr. Handsfield nor I have seen this personally. So let me further explain my position on this. I have not diagnosed new HSV 1 (no antibody) in someone who has not recently received oral sex. Often they have also had intercourse so the history is not a perfect way to sort it out, but I think very useful.
