Hello Doctor,
15 weeks ago i had one risk situation with one prostitute in Brasil.During the act i observed that condom slipped off half of the penis, still remain on the head. But on the shaft,at base was a huge quantity of vaginal fluid. After 3 days i experienced a bad condition, loss of apetite, small red spot on the skin and other strange signs.
Now i come back home and i made hiv test combi at 15 weeks, results was negativ.
It is possible like my body didnt produced antibodies and for this reason the test is negativ? Still have a condition no so good,in these months l lose some weight,i am little bit worried about the situation. The antigen still working for the test in case that my body didnt produced antibodies? Can i consider this test final?

Welcome back to our Forum. I am pleased to see that you followed my earlier recommendation and chose to be tested for HIV. The negative result that you have is definitive and proves that you did not acquire HIV from the exposure that you described. Contact of surface skin with vaginal secretions is a no risk event so, even if your sex partner did have HIV (unlikely) there is nothing to worry about.
Your body would have produced antibodies to HIV by now but in the unrealistic situation that it didn't, the antigen test would be positive. this proves that you did not acquire HIV. It is now time for you to stop worrying about HIV- you did not catch it and need to look for other explanations for your weight loss and other symptoms.
There is no need for further testing related to the exposure you described. EWH

Hello Doctor,
Few days ago i received the result for the test but still i am not relaxed,i am concern for 2 reason: my symptoms and also my wife symptoms,:fatique, cough, some red spot on the body, for these i have some question:
1 After almost 4 months from the incident,in case antibodies are not produced the antigen is still on the blood detectable because i saw many sourses wich underscore that remain sesisable only first 2 months,i am worried about false negative results
2 If the antigen is still present why are cases of false result negative after 3 months and the virus is detectable only when appear antibodies at 5,6 months or more
3 There is situation like mine, to be tested at 15 weeks negativ and later to be positive,i think maybe is better to be tested at 6 weeks when antigen is enough,in case you dont have antibodies
4 About catching the virus from tubebath, i found that virus is noninfectious only if the temperature of the water is more than 60 C,and take some time to be dead, wich is the true, because if the virous remain infectious through the water i think is a risk when come in contact with membrane mucous from vagina.
Thank you in advance for your kindly response

Tests are used to determine if symptoms are the result of HIV. Following your VERY LOW RISK encounter, your test is negative. This means that HIV is NOT causing either your symptoms or any problems your wife has. As for your somewhat repetitive follow-up questions:
1. If you did not produce antibodies at four months you would have a profound immune deficiency which would have made you very sick. As I have told you before, if for some reason antibody production was delayed, the antigen would be present and detectable. The antigen goes away in infected persons only if there is antibody present. Believe your test results.
2. See my comments above explaining what happens.
3. Sigh, testing at ANY time more than 6 weeks after infection will provide conclusive results. This is not an opinion, it is a scientific fact.
4. What you have found is incorrect. The virus would become non-infectious in bathwater no matter what the temperature.
It appears that you may be going to the internet for information. This is a mistake. Much of what is found there is out of date, taken out of context, or just plain wrong. When you combine this misinformation with the guilt that it appears you have, you will come to incorrect conclusions. Your tests prove you did not get HIV from the exposure you described. You need to give up on the idea that you have HIV or that you gave it to your wife. EWH

Ok doc thank you for reply, i will try to relax, only one question: i saw USA CDC mention that at 3 months the test is conclusive for 97 percent of the people, how remaining with the other 3 percent, also with this Combi test Eclia (in my country) is possible to be tested negativ at 3 month and 22 days and after to be changed,do you have information about any case. Thanks

This is an incorrect statement. More recently CDC investigators have published research which indicate that over 99% of persons who have recently acquired HIV will have a positive combination HIV antigen/antibody test within 4 weeks of their exposure and that the remainder will have positive tests by 6 weeks. Is this more internet-based information?
You need to accept that you did not get HIV from the exposure you have mentioned. As per forum guidelines this is my 3rd reply to your questions and therefore there will be no further responses to your questions. In addition, I should remind you that further repetitive, anxiety-driven questions may be deleted without a response and without return of your posting fee. I hope my answers have helped you. Take care. Please do not worry. EWH
