[Question #4766] Test Results
27 months ago
I recently underwent STD testing. I was told via voice mail that all my tests were negative, but they were still waiting on one test to come back. Another RN called with that result, which was also a negative. I requested a copy of my tests and the following info was from my Herpes tests.
"Herpes Simplex I &II, IgG
Interpretive Info: HSV 1/2 combined Ab screen, IgG
HSV I&II, IgM Elisa
Reference range: <=0.89
I was told that my Herpes results were negative, but I am questioning the results. Is this a positive result? Thanks.

Your results are NOT negative but you had the wrong test. You had a test that combined the Igg antibody for HSV 1 and 2 - you need a type specific antibody test, if you want an accurate test - this test will give you results for HSV 1 and HSV 2 separately. have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose? If yes, then this could be what is tripping the combined IgG test and have nothing to do with any genital infection. You can order these tests yourself at a number of different websites without a clinician order - I like healthcheckusa.com but there are many and they all use big labs like Quest and LabCorp for the testing so you don't need to worry about the quality of the labs they use.
I cannot imagine why they told you this was negative.
