[Question #4775] Ingrown hair, pimple or herpes?

I will begin with saying I suffer from ocd and mainly focus on health issues.  I have recently begun getting bikini waxes and i have always had sensitive skin. This past week i noticed a few red bumps around my pelvis. I could see hair coming in in most of them and could tell it was irrated follicles. Its important to note, when i noticed the bumps it was about a week after being waxed. But a few were pretty tender to the touch and two developed white heads. I started to worry if they were infact irrirated follicles/pimples from ingrown hair, or herpes? I began googling symptoms and differences in appearence and from what i can tell, it seems to be ingrown hair, but the fear remains.

My question is, how closley do herpes lesions occur to one another? For example, i have one pimple like bump on my upper thigh, and another on the other thigh a little farther down. They aren’t forming together in a cluster, but like their own seperate spot. If it were herpes, would they likely form close together?

Does the fact that it only was tender when proded, indicate pimple/ingrown hair? I’m familar with how pimples feel to the touch and it really seemed to feel the same. I also tend to get focullitis a lot and could tell other follicales were a little red.

Minor update. I went to an urgent care (couldn’t get in at my gyno today) and the doctor was certain it was ingrown hair/foculitis from waxing and prescribed an ointment. Based on my description and doctors opinion, does it sound like herpes? He also noted that other follicles looked a little irrated but could see hair poking out which furthered his conclusion.

These sound exactly like folliculitis bumps and I don't think you have anything to worry about here.  This is a very typical reaction to waxing and one that we hear about not infrequently.  They are too spaced out to sound like herpes to me as well.  And it's very good that you saw a clinician about your concerns - I hope that you will let his reassurance and mine as well put your mind at risk about herpes in this situation.
