[Question #4828] STDs Handjob

Hello,
I was wondering what the chances are of acquiring HPV among other STDs from a Handjob with oil as lube?

Even a rough tight squeezing handjob? With lotion as lube. What's herpetic whitlow and how common is it

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll try to answer. To do so, I must urge you to distinguish between theoretical risks and true risk/likelihood.  Receipt of masturbation is considered safe sex, even when it is rough and involves squeezing and irrespective of what lotions, creams, etc. are used.  This is even the case when participants in mutual masturbation get each others' genital secretions on one another.  This is also true for HPV.  On the other hand, there is a theoretical risk that HPV might very rarely be transmitted through masturbation. that said, it is so rare as to not be a practical concern.

A herpetic whitlow is when a person gets a herpes virus infection on their fingers from touching a herpes lesion. In general, they are very rare and typically occur in people who have scrapes or open sores on their hands.  It is not something to worry about.

I hope these comments are helpful. EWH

Dr Hook,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, I really do appreciate it, though I am concerned.
I thought this was risk free and had a zero percent chance of STDs. I examined her hands briefly and didnt see any cuts or lumps/lesions on her palms.
It's sort of hard for me to grasp what you mean when you say you urge me to differentiate between theoretical and real, however, for someone like me, an anxious person, theoretical means 50% chance, and for an expert like you I'm sure theoretical is vastly different.
Basically what I'm trying to get at is what's the real risk? 1%? 0%? Etc

I also should add that I've had an HPV infection before. About 13 years ago. Had some warts that were zapped off. Dont know if that matters or not just an FYI

Many of our clients have trouble with the idea of VERY low risk such as is the case in the event you describe.  Please remember, that in science, there is no such thing as "never" since we could discover something never seen before tomorrow.  Thus I cannot say the there is no risk of you being struck by lightening today.  In the same way, I cannot say that there is no risk of getting HPV from receipt of masturbation.  On the other hand it is not something I would, or you should, worry about.  your risk for HPV from receipt of masturbation is far less than 1%  EWH---

Hey Dr hook. Oook i uh understand in a way what you're saying. That's why they call it practicing medicine cause anything can change.
In your career Have you ever seen the transmission of HPV or herpes transmit from a hand to the genitals?
Have you ever heard of someone acquiring STDs from a handjob?
Are the same kind of HPV found on genitals transmissible to the hands?
Are common warts a possibility not just the STD type warts?
Does the lotion as a type of barrier of protection?
