[Question #4840] Herpes blood IGG test
I recently had symptoms and was worried it was my first outbreak but it could have been easily a yeast infection as well. Basically blisters only a few opened most just went away and no pain or discomfort at all. Also I still have this layer of white dry skin down there, it comes off with water, but then comes back. So I had the herpes 1 and 2 igg test done. It both came back negative. I will do the test AGAIN in 6 months. I'm going to stay away from sex until then. There were two possible somewhat resent exposures. The one that was 11 weeks from when I took the test. The other being 7 weeks from when I took the test. Basically for peace of mind. What do you think, is it a good chance I'll test negative again in a couple months? I just want try and not worry and put this behind me. So are my chances good that I'm negative? I am going to test again I just want to feel confident for now at least. P.s please don't use my first name or any of my info when answering this post, please....Oh I know the gold standard is 16 weeks but after 6 is most likely detectable so I'm told so just are my chances good I'm will be negative again?

Anytime someone reports blisters, even if only a few opened, concerns me for herpes.
The IgG test misses 8% of HSV 2 and 30% of HSV 1 compared to the gold standard western blot.
The western blot should be done 12 weeks after any concerning encounter.
Your chances of really being negative, when using the western blot, are as seen by the statistics I quoted above.
