[Question #4877] Possible risk or near zero, a lot of anxiety!

Hello Doctors,

In august, 13. I received an oral sex form a sex worker. Well... let's start:
- After 22 days, I have had appendicitis and of course a surgery;
- Four days after this surgery, I was diagnosy with trombosis, came back to hospital for more 5 days.
- After trombosis, XARELTO® (rivaroxaban), blood thinner, for just one month, ends at october 9,  the blood clot disappeared.
- After a lot of blood exams and genetics, my hematologist told me this was just because the surgery not other cause.
- Well after all this episodes, I start a lot of itchy, first in my neck, actually 4 months before receive oral sex, I started itchy in my neck, This itchy came back, on the same spot. A dermatologist and she put me under Halobex cream, disapeared after 5 days. But not the itchy, acttualy all my belly, neck and back itchy a lot. Another red rash came back, more Halobex.
- In december, 5, I went to my company party and drink a lot, next a huge hangover, two days later, fever and throat sores.
Then my anxiety started... A LOT!
- The itchy increased, appeared a lot of red bubbles like acne on my back and neck.
- January, 3. After 143  Days or 20 Weeks and 3 Days, went to a lab and take the rapid tests, results an one hour, blood vein test, from Alere e BIOMERIEUX. I don't know generations, but, I'm from Brazil, maybe 3rd generation. Negative for both, actually they test both at same time.
- In the same, after test, I went to imunologist and she said I'm under very stress in my mind and had a lot of histamin in my body, until today, I'm under Bilastine until today and Gentamicina Sulfato on "acnes"
- Dermatologist said it's acne.

I think my anxiety started from the guilt, I'm married and try to have kids.
Should I rely on this results?

Forgot to say... it's Hv1/HV2 test. And I'm under pressure from my work, since  May 18.

Welcometo our forum. Thanks for your confidence in our services.

The bottom lines:  First, I agree with your closing statement, that your anxiety about HIV is the result of guilt over a sexual decision you regret. Second, and most important, for sure you do not have HIV. Your negative blood test, almost 6 months after the sexual event, is 100% conclusive proof you do not have HIV. And I would say the same even if you had not had an HIV blood test. You had a virtually zero risk exposure, since HIV has never once been proved to have been acauired by receiving oral sex, i.e. no proved mouth to penis infections; Also, your symptoms are not typical for a new HIV infection anyway.

If your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concered, keep working with your doctor about the cause. But non't worry about HIV. For sure you do not have it!

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Okay! Thanks a lot... but, this results are 100% even if not a antigen p24 test? Because the window period?  And about later conversion?

The standalone antibody tests (i.e. no antigen) are conclusive 6-12 weeks after exposure. At almost 6 months, your results are conclusive. Delayed seroconversion doesn't happen with the current antibody tests.  For sure you do not have HIV and don't need any further tests.---

You can safely have unprotected sex with your wife or conceive a child. Good luck!

That completes the two followup comments and replies included with each question, and so ends this thread. I'm glad the discussion has been helpful.
