[Question #4935] Anxiety or Sti?

Nearly a month ago I had unprotected sex with a known partner.  We have been intimate in past.  she dates... so I know she has other partners.  I’m married :S

Anyway.  Lately I’ve been very anxious.  It kind of built up over past two weeks.   I’m not sure if I sensed symptoms and became anxious or if my anxiety is producing symptoms.

I have frequent urination - and when I pee I sense slight burning.  Not intense by any means....   I can’t tell if it’s my heightened awareness or if I legitimately have something going on down there.  There is no itch, no cloudy pee, no discharge.  So every time I pee I feel slight discomfort then anxiety rises... and urge to pee persists.  I feel like I still need to void even though I just went.

I have noticed what I assume had been semen leakage one day... but I’m assuming that is all it was.

I’ve not gone in to test... yet.   But hear thoughts.

Sorry. I’ll add some clarification here.

The woman I had been sleeping with is 42 year old white woman.  I’m 42 year old male.  I’ve slept with her three times in past three months.  The very last time was January 8th (nearly a month ago)

1). Risk level for various sti?

2) are my symptoms in line with chlamydia? NGU?

3) what should I be watching for? Or should I even be worried?

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll be glad to comment.  Your last exposure was about a month ago, your partner was of an age in which the most common STIs (gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas) are relatively uncommon (these STIs all tend to be more common in younger persons) and your symptoms are not suggestive of an STI.  Urinary frequency is not a typical symptom of any STI and if the leakage you noted had been an STI related discharge, you would have seen it more than once.  Other STIs are less common still and there is nothing you report to suggest that you might have one.  If you would find it helpful, you could have an STI for gonorrhea, chlamydia and trich and I anticipate it would be negative.  I do not feel strongly that you need testing however.

In answer to your specific questions:
1). Risk level for various sti?
Low

2) are my symptoms in line with chlamydia? NGU?
Most chlamydial infections are asymptomatic.  That said, the symptoms you report are not suggestive of an STI

3) what should I be watching for? Or should I even be worried
Your partner sounds as though she may have other partners.  While I see nothing to worry about from what you have reported, I wondered if you have asked her if she has been checked.  If so that would make your already low risk lower still.

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH

Thanks for follow up.

In terms of  leakage.

So to test, I put on dark boxers yesterday.  Nothing all day.  I have not masturbated in a few days.

In morning I noticed leakage.  It’s very slight.  Little trails.  It is what I’d expect after masturbation what I’d see afterward.

No odour.

I did just inspect tip of penis and nothing. No Crust.  Looks normal.  It’s dry.

Again. I’m only paying attention because of anxiety.

You are having what we refer to as genitally focused anxiety.  I would not worry.  Nothing to add to my earlier responses.  EWH---

Just as precaution went to clinic.  They did find blood on my urine.  But will get results and let you know.

I’ve read red blood cells can be found sometimes in urine after strenuous exercise. It is a distinct possibility as I have been working out and playing soccer.  Nonetheless will test to see if anything is up

Okay. Follow up question.  I’m really concerned.  Upon further review realize the last encounter with the woman in question was three weeks prior.  Not a month ago.

It does appear as I WAS having some form of trace clear/white discharge.  Trace amounts through day and night.  Small enough I presumed was just seminal leakage. But I’m wrong.

Initial pee test showed blood in urine.

I’ve submitted urine and blood now to test for everything.  I was also prescribed and took azithromycin.

Since then ‘symptoms’ have calmed down.  Slight leak has stopped.  Still some discomfort down there when pee.  Just a very very slight burn.  Not much else.

Here are my questions.

1). Blood in urine always indicate an sti?

2). Given time frame I assume chlamydia or NGU.  What percentage usually is it - that infection can be chlamydia over other NGU’s?

3). Could this all still be in my head?

4). Once I get results I’ll be ready to inform wife.  Just want to be sure.  We DID have intercourse unprotected one time (4 days after when I last met with the other woman).  How likely is it I could have given her something? (So far she presents no symptoms as far as I know).  We have not had sex since.  And I’m holding out for now until I get results. Although she’ll soon have questions.

Sorry for bothering you.  I’ll post results once I get them.

I did not respond earlier as I presumed that your mention of going to the clinic was more informational than a question.  As this is your 3rd response, there will be no further responses until you post your test results which I anticipate will be negative.  My overall assessment is unchanged- we'll see what your tests show:

1). Blood in urine always indicate an sti?
No.  Actually WBC in urine may suggest an STI but blood does not.

2). Given time frame I assume chlamydia or NGU.  What percentage usually is it - that infection can be chlamydia over other NGU’s?
Chlamydia causes about 30-40% of all NGU

3). Could this all still be in my head?
Yes

Wait for your test results. They take less than a day once the specimen is in the laboratory.  If you have somethin, the chance that she was infected in a single exposure is estimated to be somewhere between 25 and 50%.  EWH

Thanks for the follow-up.  Glad you were tested and as difficult as it will be, glad you will notify your wife so she can be treated.  Please also notify your casual partner that she is infected as she probably is also unaware and could re-infect you or her other partners.  Closing this thread now.  Take care EWH---
