[Question #4939] Herpes - Chrocic Nerve pain

Hi.

4 years ago i got hsv2. The first year was the easiest, with only 100 outbreaks.
The next three years has not been good. Last year i had approximently 400 outbreaks, and i also have chronic nerve pain in my legs. This is painful every day, and i am unemployed because of this.

I tried Valtrex, valacyclovir (tablett and IV). I actually got herpes outbreak while on these medications.  I have taken a full Immune system test panel, with no answers. For 3 months i tried IV with cidofovir (vistide). No results what so ever.

The last thing said by the head doctor at the hospital was: There is nothing more we can do. We dont understand why your body cant put the virus to sleep, or why no medication works.

I am desperate. Do you have any answers or ideas about my condition?

100 outbreaks in one year?  That is one every three days?
What are your outbreaks like?  How long to they last?  What do they look like?  Have you had the recurrences swab tested and evaluated for antiviral resistance?
I need to know a bit more before I can respond to your question

My outbreaks are just like first time outbreaks every time, with flu like symptoms and nerve numbness in both legs. They last 3-5 days. The outbreaks Start with extreme Tingeling and iching.  Like a sharp pin. Then they develop to blisters, that eventually bursts and scab. I also Get swallon glands in the throat and groin. Some times urinating can be painful.

I have been testes and i am not antiviral resistent. All tests done here in Norway comes back normal.

The only hjelp i Get is pain relivement, with 200mg tramadol each day.

So you have had swabs done of the lesions, those were sent to a lab and resistance testing was done and you are not resistant to the antiviral medicine?
I'm not clear why you would have swollen glands in your throat with a genital infection.
You mention that you get blisters and they scab - how long does that process take altogether?
And you have had these recurrences swab tested to confirm that they are herpes or was a swab done only with the first outbreak?

I am not resistant to the antiviral medisin. This has been tested.
It takes 4-5 days alltogether.
I have been swab-tested 2 times. Both positive.

So if you are not resistant to antiviral medicine, then I'm afraid I cannot explain the difficulty that you are having controlling your outbreaks, I'm so sorry.
