[Question #4978] Oral - saran wrap question

Hello Doctors, I just wanted to see your thoughts on an event I had around December 22 from protected oral from a CSW at a massage parlor, the oral being with saran/plastic. I'm a male, and the person as the parlor was female, as far as my knowledge at least I do know oral is low risk for most and would be zero for HIV even unprotected, and it's also a good sign that if she uses it for me, she should use it for others. I also know that they use it to protect themselves, no the client. I guess part of my question is due to anxiety because I've read many answers you both have given on here, and sites in the past, though those are dated much older, and I'm sure I know the answers already. My questions would be, would plastic wrap for oral be considered protected since there is not a study on how well it would prevent STI transmission? Hypothetically if there were a risk, would the Rocephin shot I received roughly 2 weeks later for a cold, along with a Z-pack treat the STI, be it chlamydia, gonorrhea, or NGU? Lastly, if you were for some reason in my position, would you say it would be safe to continue a sexual relationship with my wife? I have no symptoms such as frequent urination, discharge, burning, etc.

Just to add, thank you both for your work and helping thousands of people all over the world. I know you've both helped many in your practices, and many, many more online by having a forum for people to ask questions.

Thank you

Welcome to the Forum. thanks for your question and your confidence in our service.  I hope that you will find my reply reassuring.  Saran wrap is an effective barrier for prevention of STI acquisition.  While there are no comparative scientific studies, you can be confident that if the saran wrap covered your penis, then you were protected.  The only problem with saran wrap would be that it wrinkles (smile).  Further, had you acquired an STI, the shot of ceftriaxone you received would have almost certainly have cured gonorrhea if you had it and the azithromycin would be more likely than no to cure chlamydia, or NGU (a solitary 1 gram dose of azithromycin works slightly better than a Z-pak for these infections)

I see no reason related to the events you describe to abstain from unprotected sex with your wife related to the event you describe.

I hope this response is both reassuring and helpful.  If there are other questions, please feel free to use your follow-up questions to seek clarification. EWH

Thank you very much for the reply Dr. Hook. The answers to all my questions were what I expected based on reading both yours and Dr. HHH work for long long to protect myself with knowledge. I was curious about the wrap as a barrier since I have never seen that specific question, or simply overlooked it. I appreciate your help, and I have no follow up questions to add to my thread. Have a great day sir.
