[Question #5052] Follow up Oral herpes

Terri, this morning I woke up with redness on the roof of pallet and a small ulceration kind and I went to see a doctor for PCr swab. He did the swab and he explained like there are very tiny few small vesicles But he mentioned they do NOT look like herpes. He has been talking about it like they r viral and they don’t look like canker sores but more like viral kind and do not look like herpes sores.
He went on to explain we might have regarding herpes that we don’t know and it can be transmitted by sharing drink by drinking water from same containers, utensils and stuff like that however he did a PCr swab.
I feel slight pain but I don’t feel a whole lot. When looked into mirror I could see only one sore kind but he said there are few Tiny ones next to it which are not visible in the mirror even with a light focused on it. I am concerned but again trying to be optimistic that since I hve mot kissed or gave oral sex to anyone else other than my wife and nothing more than breast exposure I had I am trying to be optimistic.
Sorry for the multiple posts if this popped up
Last night I would have messaged u in the same post itself. I feel slight sore throat feeling but not a whole lot.
Any comments? Should I be concerned?

I do not agree that sharing drink or utensils is a method of transmission.
I don't know how you should feel about this as I did not see the lesions. Your provider is in a better place to know. Please await the results and if negative for HSV, that's what we need to know.

Hello Terri,
The pain and intensity of the red ulcer area almost gone, does herpes unclers do that within 24 hours? I can barely feel it in my mouth. Pls advise.

No, not normally. Usually herpes lesions last at least 3 days and sometimes up to a few weeks.

Hello Terri, the results came out negative. My only concern now is the redness I had on my mouth area for 3.5 days which reduced without opening, scaring, scabing or ulcering. I am not sure to what extent I should be concerned but should I keep this aside as it nowhere mimicked the typical herpes or can herpes present as anything and everything physically? Pls advise.

I think it is so unlikely that you would get a herpes outbreak that only presented as redness. The presentation of herpes can vary, but orally, it is a bit more consistent in it's presentation that with genital infection. With oral infection, in the person who gets symptoms, it normally presents as water blisters that rupture, ulcerate and crust. I'm thinking you are good to go!
