[Question #5074] Spreading of herpes

Hello- I have a question in regard to the spreading/occurrence of herpes.
I have had a rash on my upper breast, which I suspect to possibly be herpes. Now I have something that feels to be a cold sore in my nose.
I have seen conflicting information online. If this is a recurrent outbreak (I can be fairly certain that I have not had a new exposure) is it possible to spread to other parts of my body - such as my chest, nose. Some things online say that this was only happens with recent exposure and some say it can happen anytime.
Also would herpes on chest present as a rash of small red bumps, some closed and some slightly opened, all across the upper part of my breasts?
Thank you so much

In the meantime I have thought of a couple more questions.
How long can virus still infect another person from the finger tips?
If the rash has some closed sores- are these contagious or only open ones?
They are now all closed and fading. How long could they remain contagious?
How long does an outbreak like this typically last from start to finish?

Once a herpes infection is well established (perhaps 4 months in), it is highly unlikely that you would transfer it to a new location on your body. Have you ever had a cold sore in your nose before or on your lip? What you are describing on your breasts does not necessarily sound like herpes to me. Herpes would normally present as clear water blister type rash, tender. and usually with breast, the rash if often close to the nipple (and would have gotten there from someone sucking on your nipples and that's NOT a baby). Is this rash scattered over the tops of your breasts - both breasts? Have you had a professional look at it? Herpes outbreaks last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and again, they start as water blisters on a red base, ulcerate, then crust over.

Thank you so much for the response.
My doctor looked at it and was not sure. I was referred to dermatology.
The rash is spread across both breasts. And some underneath. A lot of it has scabbed and scarred under the breast. They are all pretty much dried out on my breast at this point. Would they still be contagious?
Could this be spread to someone else or small child by very brief contact? Like brushing up against it?
Thank you

Honestly, this does not sound anything like herpes to me. Did dermatology swab test it or give you any idea what it might be?
I don't know what the rash could be so I can't comment upon it's contagiousness. If herpes, a small child brushing up against it should not result in transmission.

Thank you so much for your response. I have not seen dermatology yet.
Is it possible for herpes to begin under my breast about 2-3 months ago and spread to other regions of my breast if I had been scratching the initial lesions. If one were to continue to touch the lesions, would the outbreak last longer than the given 3-4 weeks?

A herpes outbreak would be extremely unlikely to last for 3-4 weeks.
If you did have herpes on one area of the breast it is certainly possible for it to travel along a slightly different nerve and come to the surface of the skin in a new location of the breast, yes, but again this does not sound herpetic to me. I'm hoping you will go to see the dermatologist for a clearer answer to this puzzle.
