[Question #5083] Cunniligus Risk Assesment

I’ve read the MedHelp forum along with this forum and it seems as though in regards to cunnilingus it’s the safest unprotected act one could engage in.

As for risk with regards to HIV and Hep B or Hep C it seems as though someone would have a better chance getting hit with a meteor.  In some answers in regards to all three you y’all have said a non factor.

So it seems the only real risk would by syhilis or clyamdia or gonnerea?

Thank You

Welcome back to the Forum.  I see that this question builds on your earlier questions which were addressed by Dr. Handsfield.  I agree with the comments he made in reply to your earlier questions.    Indeed, amongst penetrative sexual encounters, performance of cunnilingus is probably the lowest risk of all.  Most women are not infected and acquisition of infection through cunnilingus is so rare as to be a curiosity.  While there is a theoretical possibility that this could happen, I am not aware of any proven cases in which someone has acquired HIV or hepatitis B or C from performance of cunnilingus on an infected person.  It is not something I would be worried about and from a medical perspective see no compelling reason for testing for these infections if this is your only exposure.

I hope this comment is helpful. EWH

Curiosity and theoretical is as close to zero as you can get when it comes to science I understand the wording is needed just in case there is a “scientific miracle”.

But as previously stated I did the Hep B surface body and antigen test at 32 days and was negative. In combination with the basically zero chance I was infected it’s as close to conclusive without spending anymore money as I am going to get.

I wasn’t concerned about retesting I just wanted to make sure I had clearly understood everything that has been mentioned.

Thank you again for this wonderful informative forum.

Great summary.  You are correct, this is about as close to zero as one can get.  No worries.

Thanks as well for your thanks.  EWH

Just for future reference a few final questions.

How accurate are HBsAG and antibody test at 4 weeks?  Also with oral sex with reference to receiving oral and cunnilingus you don’t recommend testing in regards to HIV or any other STD  if those are the only exposures?

As these was my third reply thank you again.

Typically the hepatitis B antigen is detectable in the blood within 30 days of exposure.  Antibody development can take up to three months although in most people who acquire the infection tests are positive within 6 weeks.

I know of know instances of proven HIV acquisition from either receipt of oral sex or cunnilingus.

This will end this thread. EWH
